Hello, Any of my Dallas/Fort Worth folks know of a wheel repair shop that can straighten 3 wide 5 wheels. I took them to a repair shop that said they could do steel and now they say they cannot straighten them. All other places I talked to said they can do aluminum but not steel. thanks in advance.
I'd be asking Rusty at Dirty's speed shop. Home - Dirty's Speed Shop They build parts for the area circle track cars and should know who is the go to person/shop to straigten a steel wheel. You might also check with B***. Remembering in 1969 when I got out of the Army in july and drove to California from Texas to see my aunt in Santa Monica and my uncle had a bent rim on his Rambler and I rode with him to a shop that straighened wheels and watched the guy make that wheel perfect and maybe better than it was from the start. He had hit one of those famous even back then La potholes.
How bad are they? Reason I’m asking is that all wheels have some runout. You’d be surprised what is acceptable and can be balanced with weights
How bad are they ? I've read a few times here that 1/8th no big deal for a 16 inch rim with the high tires. Dan Hay typed faster, great minds think alike
I’m about to go pick them up so I’ll see exactly what they found. At least one of them On the front is bad enough to cause a pretty good vibration around 50-60. It seems to settle out above that. I’ll update soon
So they are telling me they cannot straighten the bent one and it’s pretty bad, this is definitely causing the shimmy in the front end. I’d guess it’s out by atleast 1/8 if not closer to 1/2”. I have a spare wheel that is straight so they are gonna blast and powder coat this one to match and mount the tire on it. That fixed my immediate issue. I guess I’ll just use the bad one as wall art or maybe just make it a spare since it’s already powder coated. Would be cool to get it fixed though to have a true usable spare. I appreciate the help.
You need a where adapter. Not for adapting, but to make a center hole, so it fits on their equipment. That and 5/8-11 60° lug nuts. https://scaledperformance.com/a-1-p...HEuSrLDFX1bApB3N4O438HRo8TPUn1wwaApusEALw_wcB https://neratdemo.com/shop/body-ch*...deg-58-11-co****-1-hex-for-our-wheel-centers/
Thanks for all the information. I do have wheel adapters on the rear, I was able to get them one to use for balancing.
Chrysler Town and Country Minivan/Dodge Caravan, base model steel wheels, 1996-2000. They are 16 x 6-1/2", have safety beads. I build them reversed, with some backspacing choice. I weld up the valve stem hole and drill a new one on the outside, in the current modern size. They can be run tubeless.
