PS: I ended up going on Saturday . . . the place was packed with way more people (spectators) & cars . . . literally dozens more "HAMB-friendly cars" than on Friday.

Thanks for the pics. Any more info on '36 dual cowl phaeton? I can't think any time I've ever seen one.

 

built as a custom by Joe Hocker in the late 40's, shown at Oakland in 51 with the single Duval windshield. the dual cowl part was done in the 70's. it was featured in Rod & Custom Ideas in 1979. Ford never made one.

We went to this show I think in 92. We were on some sort of family vacation and I talked my wife into checking it out. How often does a person that lives in a small town about 40 miles NE of Seattle get to go to a genuine California Car Show? It was amazing back then, probably better now. No real conversations, but we bumped into several car celebrity people. We got to see cars we only saw in magazine coverage, it was great. Both of my sons now in their 40's loved it.

I highly recommend to people if you can go to one of the big California car shows you will be glad you did.

back in 1992 the cutoff date was 1972. today it is a rolling 25 years, so a year 2000 car or truck can come in. number of cars has only increased slightly. it's better now because the insanity of the billet 90's is long gone, and people are building cool cars again. other than trucks I don't think there are very many 80's or 90's cars, but I only went Friday.

funny how it all works, the first official outside car show I went to in 1978 had 49 Mercury's parked outside as the cutoff date was 1948.

That show was probably Andy's picnic on Crow Canyon RD. And if it was, that 49 Merc was the Cool 50 in primer. I was there too.

 

I don't remember if it was this show or another but Pete Chapouris 50 Chevy Bel Air "Jezebel" was at a show outside as well.

 

Yup, that's the Cool 50.

car is looking good! I was only there on Friday as my car broke down on the way home and my camera battery was dead when we saw you, so I did not get a picture..
