Hello everybody! As some who follow my build threads might have seen I sold my 57 Ranchero yesterday..was a hard decision to make but I ended up getting something way cooler. 1948 Ford 4dr sedan This car is VERY solid and believe to be original paint and interior. It runs but doesn't want to idle so that's the first step and YES the headlights are being thrown away! My plan is to shine it up, lower it and drive it as is for awhile.
I was fortunate to bring along a family friend of mine who has a 46 4dr sedan, and his Dad and Brother have a 46 and 47 2dr sedan.
More doors, More fun. What do the young ones think, especially your daughter? Sounds like it's time to rebuild the carb, the fun begins!
This is probably not your engine issue but I would see if that fuel hose runs all of the way to the tank. If it does, then I would swap in pipe from the tank to the firewall and then a bit of hose to bridge the gap to the fuel pump. There is a chance that the hose is not rated for fuel and could be gumming up the works but my concern is the fire hazard aspect.
Yeah I haven't been able to work on it yet with my work schedule BUT the previous owner told me there was a new hardline installed but they thought it was too small so they put new one in and it may all be rubber.
very nice! I'm seeing more and more of those ugly modern headlights at shows theses days, its just sick to think thats an improvement.
. Nice solid looking car ! Is that one of those overseas versions of the Holley ‘94 ? I just bought one as after hearing and seeing some good comments. Funnily enough, mine idled beautifully after adjusting the throttle blades to where they should have been, but then would not run properly at revs. Power valve seems to be incorrect rating, so will look at that next.
Very nice solid looking car. I can smell that interior just looking at the pictures. Lol. Get er running and drive it !
Nicely roomy and very comfortable... I love mine! I would install seat belts as the door latches on these tend to pop open in accidents.
Getting better! Changed headlights and started polishing. Got it running smoother, gonna swap carbs to a non Japanese one and get some heat cycles through it..got some sticky valves. Also removed front bumper guards after I took this pic.
Here's some pics before I washed it, sos-ed the chrome and went around the block Picked up a good rebuilt carb yesterday and a reverse eye front spring.
Wiped it down with wd40. Swapped carbs and still having running issue..have a plan..we will see how it turns out this weekend.
Only update I got is I officially got it registered in my name..Haven't worked on it at all, been preoccupied with lovely house projects/yard work. Soon!
You already know to watch those rear doors. They are not child proof. Mom an dad had a 46 when I was very young. We had a near miss.
Today I got rid of the rubber fuel hose and hooked the steel line back up. Tried to drain what was left in the tank but stripped out this brass plug.... So I used the old fuel hose, a HF electric fuel pump with a dewalt battery and emptied the tank, it had maaaybe a gallon in it. That's all for now!
After doing that ^ I put 5 gallons of clear premium in it, fired it up and still having the running/surging issues. I'm almost thinking maybe something in the fuel pump is wonky.. a new pump isn't too expensive so I may just order one as a last ditch effort.
Couple days ago I pulled the distributor out to have a friend of mine run it on his machine to see if the pertronix is working or not. Upon him messing with it discovered I'm missing part of the vacuum advance mechanism so he is on the hunt. I am also converting to a crab cap instead of the 48 style one.
