AH hah!!!!! Finally!!!! I went to my dads to help him figure out his carb off his 47 ford. Because apparently I know what I'm doing..... lol... So, we traced everything on his carb like I did mine. The one thing that didn't seem right was that when we would fill the bowl with gas, then manually push the accelerator pump it would barely weep gas out the two nozzles. I thought it should squirt, but wasn't sure. So, dad took out the nozzles and the needle valve didn't look like it was moving a whole lot. So, he pushed really hard on the accelerator pump and POP! The needle broke loose and flew out. We found it, cleaned it up, put everything back together and the two nozzles were squirting fuel! Woo hoo! I immediately ran home, pulled my carb, pushed on the accelerator pump and- nothing. I actually had to hit it with a hammer to get that needle to break loose. I finally did, and that thing was way corroded. I cleaned it up nice, put it back in and it worked like a champ. YES!!! I took my other carb off, rebuilt that one, put them both on and the '40 FINALLY RUNS! It was running rough, but I took it around the block. Now I just need to smooth it out. Thanks for all the help HAMBers. This '40 has been a project!
And...you just learned enough to say that you are quite definitely a better carb guy than the one that "rebuilt" your carbs! And we had it at post 26!
Just for the record. We bought six (6) matching 97's with long shafts for our 6-Log Olds manifold from Uncle Max. You guys need to know this fellow is fantastic! and really fair and honest... Thanks Max Ken in Seattle, Wa.
i am also having one of my carbs leaking out the nozel bar when the car is off it drips and then floods the car making it hard to start any ideas on what could be causing it the other carb does not drip.they are both rebuilt which does not mean much. I did lower the fuel level but have not really taken it out on a road test yet. also it does not leak all the time.
I am running into this same issue. Fresh Ford 94 carb everything new built professionally. It ran sweet as soon as I put it on except for the accelerator pump was binding. When giving it gas it would go down so far and bind and you would have to push thru that point never a smooth shift or take off I checked some my other carbs and the accelerator pump moved smoothly nothing holding it. I pulled an accelerator pump out of one of the other 94s and now it glides like ****er. One thing that worried me is the one I took out had a small spring on the bottom while the one I put in didn’t but a YouTube video, I believe Mikes carbs, said not to worry about it some have them and some don’t. Now the issue I am running ing into is it is either hard to start or starts instantly and dies after a couple of seconds. When it hard starts it runs for couple of seconds and dies as well. I get out and looked under the hood and my carb is leaking all over the place and gurglin Wipe it down and try again without giving it gas and the battery dies trying to get it to start. I’m taking a crash course in flatheads and 94 carbs. I’m fine with it that is why I have two of them, the whole reason I got them actually. Trial by fire. Easiest way to learn. Lol maybe I am a glutton for punishment. But I wish I could get cut just a bit of a break. Can anybody show me where I am going wrong at? Rob
