Sorry about the off topic, BUT YOU GUYS KNOW EVERTHING! (and besides, vintage drag cars are always cool!) This car supposedly won it's cl*** a year or two in the South East, mainly the Carolinas. I believe it was based out of Pacolet Mills and owned by Harold Gault. It might have then been succesfully raced by a Mr. Anderson or Andrews. I would love to locate come pictures of the car racing back in the day or fill in some info on it's history. Any help would be appreciated.
No Info on the car. But that looks like a early Capri strut ( modified to Coilover ) with maybe a early Pinto R&P. Could be the Capri R&P as well, but I think I see the Pinto Ropesteer.
You'll probably have more luck here. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=0 Very knowledgeable guys.
From what I’ve been able to piece together so far, the car ran in the late 70’s and into the 80’s at race tracks like Bristol, Wadesboro (N.C.), Spartanburg, Shuffletown, Shelby, Broadslab, Piedmont Dragway, Kinston Drag Strip and Roxboro Dragway, Fayetteville, Rockingham, Mooresville, Shadyside, Farmington, Wilkesboro. It may have started off being owned and raced by Greg Anderson and then it was for sure raced by Harold Gault of Pacolet Mills SC. and still wears the "Pacolet SC" lettering on the side. Harold Gault won several championships in the stock cl*** and some super stock. He has continued to race into the 2002 season and won the "stock" cl*** that year. This particular Challenger drag car was owned and raced by him for a number of years but which years is still unclear. I have not been able to actually get a phone number for him and talk to him about the car yet. Does anyone possibly have any pictures from those tracks or maybe Harold Gault's phone number??
Hey James, I just happened to have come across this post, and I am unsure if you will even see this, but my daddy is Harold Gault. I have pictures of this car. I actually won it in a drawing from Greer Dragway in 1988 (4 years old). My daddy's friend Mr. Ivey asked me if wanted a ticket to try and win a racecar and I remember getting the ticket and winning! Clayton drove the car some as well as my daddy. When we sold it, my daddy sold it to Donnie Walker in Shelby, NC in the 1990's.
Thanks for the photos. Very interesting story about winning the raffle. @James427 has not been here in ten+ years. However, @James426 may find this interesting.
Thank you! I did see where his last post was from 2013, but figured I would give it a shot anyway. I’m not certain that I’m even navigating this forum correctly, but I figured I would attempt since it was a total coincidence that 16 years later, I stumbled across his post from 2009!!!! Lol.
Very cool!! Yes, bought this car in St. Pete Florida way back in 2009. Sold it about a year later to someone who planned on getting it back out on the track. Not sure whatever happened to it.... But I am 100% sure it still exists in some form. Thank you Scarlett for the cool story about the raffle!!
