Hot Rods 1946-48 Ford Rear Axle Shackle Bushings?

    This bushing and one just like it were in the shackle pin bores of my axle housings. The bores are almost exactly .750" The wall thickness is .0625" mathematically that would give them a 5/8" bore. Question is, are these Henry Ford originals or is this a repair job from many years ago? Any information would be good, thanks in advance, Tim

    It’s the outer tin of the original shackles stud. Inside the tin there was a rubber impregnated cloth liner, and the through stud inside that.

    If you are planning on using the original style shackle studs, be aware they are very hard to press in.

    And that makes sense, if seems like these were originals Thanks for the reply, what is your recommendation.

    There was a special press tool used to put in replacements way back when. Nowadays most hot rodders use shackles with urethane inserts. Available from many places, like Pete & Jake’s.
