There’s no words (that I know of) to describe how awesome this car is.. I love the interior!! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Hey Todd, great job of bring the past into the future showing how it was done back in the days when it began. There's times on here when someone does a great build that makes us wish that change and technology wouldn't have came onto play. It's always great to see someone build a car that you don't see that often. You have done a great job, just the basic too make a totally cool ride, I myself would enjoy your 57 Pontiac before I would anyone's big dollar build. To the past where it all started!!!!!!
A friend at the time bought a '57 sedan like yours in around 1963. It was a factory two tone green, 347 with a 3 speed column shift. Because of the crazy transmission nobody made a floor shift for it. I believe it only had 1 lever on the side case. Thanks for taking me back in time with your beautiful Pontiac.
Such a great car Todd, care to fill us in on what happened during the time gap? Planning any more mods or are you just going to enjoy it as it is?
George Poteet owned the car. he sold the car. I bought it from the guy that bought it from him. The car had been for sale for a long time. I loved it. I race at Bonneville and knew George. We spoke in 2017 and I told him I had it. fast forward to 2020, we were at Speedweek again and he asked about the Pontiac. I showed him pictures and asked if I'd sell it. I said no. We were building our house at the time, the pandemic hit. I was nervous, George called and offered more money. I said no again. He called again, and then I said OK. My only ask was that if he wanted to sell it I had right of first refusal. He subsequently sold it to Bob Johnson. I bought it back from Bob. Long boring story, but super happy I have it again!!
Not boring at all. Glad it’s back in the hands of a HAMB guy. Keep us posted, I’m sure I’m not alone when I say it’s one of the most interesting HAMB projects. When I was young there was a 57 Pontiac 2dr hardtop that was always parked on a nearby street that I frequently rode down on my bike. It had 3 twos, exhaust cutouts, cheater slicks and C&O Hydro decals in the back side windows. I never did see it at Lions or driving around town, but it has always stuck in my memory nevertheless. Cool cars.
A couple of occasions in the 60s I watched a similar Pontiac run at Carlsbad Raceway. He had an unusual suspension setup that raised the rear of the car on takeoff, planting the tires. It was a quick car. I've always had a special place for Pontiacs, as the first engine I ever rebuilt was a 326 Poncho at 15. The engine came from a '63 Tempest that a mechanic at John Hine Pontiac had already converted from the rope drive and was putting a 427 chevy in.
To me, the only thing cooler than a built hydro, is a clutched hydro (can't remeber the correct name right now dammit)
