If cartoons are supposed to be exaggerations I don't think you chopped your picture enough! Haha great work man, I love this build - it takes a village
makes me rethink about coming to the roc this along with someones intentional '51 either way Joey, you roc
Brought a pile of parts over to Joey last night. Got an A body Mopar steering box and a 46 ish wheel from @Tim I had the ring and button from a swap meet from Jimmy years ago. Plus a pile of little stuff needed to make it a “car”
Lets play "before and after" First I finally got my bench cleaned off for the first time since before I started this project. We'll get back to that, but in the meantime, here's part of what I cut out of the front crossmember. The "before" has a leaf spring welded into the spring pocket. And now the after. Much better. much less chance of death. And with Austin's aforementioned parts delivery, I got the right rear wheels stuck on the chassis. Looks much better. And now the after on the bench. Till next time! .
Looking forward to the next steps. Is that steering box aluminum? Seemed like it might be. Bet @Bandit Billy would have it polished up enough to get your eye balls sun burnt lol
@coupe33 its the box the majority of people use to get cowl steering. Bolt it to an under cowl hoop generally. as far as why he got one, he needed a steering box upgrade from a model A box and it was available. as far as why not cross steering? Because the car is already set for side steer and he wants to keep it that way. but wait til you guys see what’s next!
Short update, got the center crossmember donut made for the driveshaft pass through, and installed it into the crossmember enough to create an idea of floor clearance. rolled it outside to lift the body on. we stuck the body on once mike arrived, and I cut the floor to fit the driveshaft tunnel. We then attempted to use the 33 hood that Austin had, to mock up the grille, and found that to be impossible to fit to the 34. so we decided for now it will be hoodless. so of course we mocked it up with my 4 carb weiand manifold... and that's all I've got for this week. tune in next time! .
it was free. that's it, literally the only reason we are even attempting it. Otherwise I probably wouldn't bother since its HUGE.
After seeming Joeys 4x2 I decided I needed one too! Gonna start buying odds and ends for the intake for a winter project
And absolutely no vision to change lanes at 65 MPH on a busy freeway with semi trucks around you. Scary as fuck. Ask me how I know. Good luck. I like it! Mines only 5 1/2 inches. Can I interest you in a life insurance policy! Ha!
Might need to invest in a cb radio lol. We can run in a pack…. If we can keep up with Joey in the T lol
The guys are still in a mad thrash. Joey is off to Mcphail’s shindig so between that little trip and the pace they are keeping up I wouldn’t expect an update for a little while. But they are stoking the hot rod fires to quite a glow!
well its been a hot minute. we thrashed a bit to see if we could make it happen for the ROC, but there was just too much left. so we decided to take it slower and try to make it nicer as we go. here's what we got done before we took a week break. built a firewall, Got in a pile of parts to make the car actually function. trimmed the drop section of floor out, and installed a flat floor, that didn't interfere with the hairpins we used on the rear. we attempted some beadrolls, and the 18 gauge laughed at the thought. before I installed the firewall, I installed a hoop for cowl support, and placed the swing pedals I then made a floor for the front. including a tunnel made from the same 18 gauge, that my brake had a similar problem with. I made a notch and lip for the pedal to mount. did a bunch of little stuff like construct a brake pedal switch mount.. and after mocking up steering wheel locations, I built a mount for the column, integrated into an under dash ... sub-dash? that will hold the switches and stuff, so we can swap dashes later without rewiring. I made a mount for the steering box, and then ran the shaft, u-joints and supports. its pretty solid for being tacked together. next we tackled heating and re-bending the steering arms to be ABOVE the wishbone. Mike brought over his torch, on the way back from getting the bottles refilled, and heated them while I bent them to shape. once done, they were on top of the wishbone, as they should be. with the steering mostly sorted, I moved on to cutting the column to length, and tacking the mount on for the quick disconnect wheel. we also mounted a seat so we could get the wheel in the right place. I then finished piecing together the floor and tunnel. we then got sketchy and lifted the body with my engine hoist and a 2x4 I got a shot of the mostly finished floor and Austin got a photo of me trying on the body-on-cart for size. then life happened, I went to Iowa to help my sister-in-law, then went to the Roc, and this weekend will be in St louis vending art again. More of that on my T thread. we should kick it back into gear come the next week or so. stay tuned! .
I always say fall is the best hot rod weather. It’s not as hot out, and you’ve got a better chance of having your “get done by spring” list finished lol. I’m still working on mine that’s for sure!
