I've done about a dozen closed 32 Fords, 5 windows & sedans and all of them had the Drake door hinge mirrors on both sides. If adjusted right I had excellent rear vision. My 3 window coupe has the short swan neck mirrors from Lime Works mounted on each door. Good vision also.
Warning, when you set the hinge pin in for any reason, make sure the lower hole is lined up or the mirror mount is toast. Pot metal does not like to bend. I learned the hard way!!
I turned my peep mirrors into door hinge ones. ( didn’t trust the clamp type fitting and thought it would eventually vibrate loose and fall off). Then went to the long arm peep mirrors (still mounted to the hinge) as the J shaped arm held the mirror too close to the body and you couldn’t see enough for them to be helpful. took the door off, shaped the mirror with a plastic grinding disc to follow the contour of the door hinge, drilled a hole to line up with the mirror and a bit of locktite and now a permanent fixture. Original version bottom photo, now has the long arm mirror which looks a lot better.[/ATTACH] swan neck mirrors is another option, but can look a bit street rod like. hagan hot rod mirrors have had some good comments on here, but I don’t have any experience with them.
My opinion is that the peep clamp on mirrors are the worst, they destroy the paint and the times I've talked to guys who tried to use a piece of rubber on the door under the peep mirror clamp it would eventually fall off and do more damage. The hinge mounted straight arm mirrors are the traditional way to mount mirrors on a rear opening Ford door.
I just don't like how far they stick out.... probley get some and shorten the arm... there was the billet little ones that you can't see out.... I would like to find something to cover the holes.... but it's looking like I just need to weld them shut. where's waldo the mirror on the windshield was a mofo to get off..
Just thinking , How about take and maybe Cut rectangular to round , Round points off , Motorcycle mirrors VW
This is exactly why I ended up mounting mine as described above. I bought 4 peep mirrors and chipped the paint off, tried rubber and they loosened off, but I didn’t want to buy 4 more mirrors so utilised what I had. Ironically, I ended up years later buying 4 more long arm ones. Wish I had just found 4 hinge mount ones at the time !
