Just seeing if any other HAMB’ers wanted to join me on a Saturday cruise Sept 13th. The plan is to meet at the East Hills Walmart parking lot. Depart at 9:30 AM heading up the #9 highway going to the Bleriot Ferry. I figured if Deuce Days can pack the Coho Ferry with Hotrods we can do the same in landlocked Alberta albeit on a smaller scale. After crossing the river we would follow Dinosaur Trail into Drumheller. With a plan to stop at Riverside park (1101 Riverside Dr E) bring your own picnic lunch and hang out for a bit. After lunch we can make our way back to Calgary. If you’re interested let me know or plan to meet at the East Hills Walmart (255 East Hills BLVD SE Calgary) for a 9:30 AM departure on Sept 13th.
It’s not a Joke land locked Alberta dose have a ferry service. Come experience for yourself and put some more miles on the cars before winter.
Have fun Rob...hope you're able to assemble an entourage of hotrods. Here's a photo of the Curmudgeons crossing the river on the McLure reaction ferry (it uses a cable to provide the direction and the current of the river to provide the power to cross). It carried 2 vehicles at a time.
@Rob28 Man have fun! My junk doesn't really fit the theme and I think I have been told we are doing something that day already....
Today was the day for the cruise out to Drumheller. 5 cars participated with 3 sporting Flathead engines. Traveled over 230 miles without any troubles. @BigJoeArt brought out his AV8T still sporting the mechanical brakes. Car didn’t skip a beat Crossed the river Bleriot ferry with a full load of cool cars. Couldn’t have asked for better weather either.
You are correct it was Joe Coughlin with his AV8 https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/1927-t-roadster-build.1214852/
Yep made for a fun day. It’s always better to spend the day driving the car instead of sitting beside it in a lawn chair at a static show
I don’t know about that but I make sure to plan a trip if I can get a name that rhymes. As that is the best way to plan anything. my next plan was “Strombergs & Starships”. Cruise down to Vulcan Alberta a small town who leaned into the Star Trek theme. They have built a sculpture of the “USS Enterprise” as the tourist information center.
Live long and prosper. I stopped in there on the way back from the Hat (with the roadster) a few years back. Always enjoy the less travelled routes.
You know the spot. You could make annual event to visit the "worlds largest (insert item) " around Alberta to keep you busy for a few years. Get a collection of pictures with you car and the worlds largest Putter, Teepee or even the famous Perogy as you visit all the small Prairie towns
Thats what you get when you ask Chat GPT to make you a image of a “Blue Hotrod surrounded by Hoodoos with a BBQ grilling and a T-Rex”
Hehehe…you can peek at my posts in the “car in front of” thread. We’ve been finding some interesting sights as we’ve been touring the province over the past few years. Fun stuff.
