Hey guys, I stumbled across what I believe to be a fairly well do***ented and correct vintage front engine dragster today. I believe this is an original Ch***is Research 440 that was featured in the February 1964 issue of HRM as the "Research Rail". It was built by Jim Albert and Richard "****" Blackman as a test bed for their dual overhead cam flathead ideas. Article listed: Body by Bob Sorrel Wire wheels and front-end by Kent Fuller Tony Nancy Interior It was restored here locally about 10yrs ago, and I'm looking at purchasing the car in it's current "cackle-fest" condition. Does anyone here have any additional information on this car, it's history, etc...? Also if anyone has high quality scans of the Feb 1964 issue I'd love to see them; there also is a pic of what is believed to be maybe February 1966 HRM article? It's too blurry to make out. Ultimately, I started down this rabbithole because I was curious about a dragster for racing in the HAMB drags. I believe this car would not qualify due to the stock ford transmission and the roll-bar design? Maybe some of the FED guys can chime in to help.
No sir, it did sell to a collector in Florida in 2024 I believe. Should be easy to spot with the unique custom body.
