Thanks B&S, that makes a lot of sense. I did mock up regulator on back side of carb but I had only a few inches of space to make connection from pump outlet to reg inlet. It would have been difficult for me to do.

I reluctantly decided to mount it on the firewall and fortunately this will worked out well. It frees up a place to mount choke bracket on the rear carb base stud.

The fuel pressure regulator may or may not solve your wet mouth drool problem....
I find that I have better luck with the Grose Jet instead of the stock needle and seat...even the viton ones
I have used the Speedway ones with great outcomes

clean fuel is paramount with what ever you use for a float/fuel shut off....
good luck and just keep after it

in my experience the fuel feed is a positive shut off using the Grose Jet in place of the needle and seat... the use of the Gross Jet has eliminated the leaking and seepage I have experienced on the 97 and 81 carburetors I have on my cars
no more gasoline smell in the garage
that said, proper float/running fuel level adjustment is also necessary

Installed a Holley 12-804 regulator and before starting up the engine I adjusted it down a half a turn since they come preset at 2.8 psi. However my pressure gauge is still reading 1 psi same as it did without a fuel regulator. The gauge is a Marshall (non liquid filled one). Guess it’s junk. So I have no clue what pressure I’ve got. Guess I’ll just play with adjusting pressure as I test run or on shake down drives to get it dialed in.

Engine ran great; no leaking gas from throttle lever shafts and very little gas seepage from rear carb at air horn gasket. just enough to put small thin wet line on your finger if you touch edge of gasket. I’m hoping this will stop once the gasket swell back to life from being used more frequently. PXL_20250914_220446045_Original.jpeg PXL_20250914_220516150_Original.jpeg

This works well for me. Initially I had only the center carb hooked up to the choke but works better with both
