I previously posted a batch of scans of some 1962 Yellow Pages car dealers, body shops and other service businesses. I completely overlokked the fact that there was another group of listings specific to auto and truck general repair businesses. So back to the scanner I went . . . Maybe someone will find some inspiration from this vintage artwork for some truck door lettering or sign painting. Regularly drive by the unoccupied dealership building that's still on this site. There's still a bit of a hand painted "ghost sign" on one building for Johnstone Olds who had bought the franchise from Rice some years ago. Russ Moore Transmission is still operation but moved to a larger, more modern building on the north side of Fort Wayne. Believe they were and possibly are still an employee operated business. Looks like a Buick Dynaflow getting some pump seals replaced. Don't believe Jerry "Jiggs" Swanson ever sold anywhere near a million vehicles. A few more scans to follow.
Chapman Auto Service is still in business today at the same location. Imagine it's now run by a son or grandson. Sponsored a car or two at Avilla Dragway in the 70's. Allen County Motors is now just a big parking lot downtown. Norm Trzynka p***ed about 20 years ago. Hope he got a discount on this Yellow Pages ad; they misspelled "Sunnymede". His sons carried on the business as Norm's Point Service for several years. The current owners bought the name and business from the family and still operate it at the same location in New Haven, Indiana. Kimble's is now a small park/greenspace. Was kitty-corner from Ft. Wayne's World Famous Powers Hamburgers joint. Still serving the best sliders around!
Forgot I had 4 more pics from this group that I hadn't posted . . . Motor Parts & Equipment was one of my favorites. Huge store, good product lines and a well equipped machine shop. Hasn't been around for ages. O'Neil's Gl*** is still in business a few blocks west of this original location, greatly expanded over the years. The Enterprise Gl*** building is still in operation but now under a different name. And that's it for this batch.
