1375B05C-D54B-447A-A577-EDEB2E815D32.jpeg Theirs a group of us local old car guys that get together for Breakfast every Tuesday morning,.. The conversation, centers around cars, But also spreads into a wide variety of other topics, including pills, procedures, politics and just about anything else you can think of,... But pretty much always comes back to our primary interest,... Our common interest in cars.

Well a month or two ago, one of the guys started talking about playing around with a car he had stashed away,... and getting serious about getting it running so he could drive it to Breakfast before the snow started flying in northern Michigan. He said it was a pretty solid 1939 Olds Tudor Sedan.... He had picked it up years ago from an estate sale, And the family told him it last ran when JFK was in the White House. But because it wasn't what I usually get excited about, I was just paying minimal attention,... so I missed some of the details I would normally pay attention to (another unfortunate benefit of the aging process).

So, as I'm pulling into the parking lot of the restaurant last Tuesday,.. I see a 1939 Olds sedan that does indeed look pretty solid... I was late, so I did a walk around and and went in. Then again the conversation flows into anything imaginable,.. But keeps going back to Irv's Olds and his drive in. As we're talking I find out there is something very interesting about this old Jitney...

Apparently it has a 324 Olds engine under the hood,... put there in the late 50's !.... Hooked up to the original drive-train via what looks like an old "Speed Gem" transmission adapter,... And a home made Tri-Power intake that was brazed together.... In the glove box is receipts and other paperwork all dating 1958 to 1961.

A;though, like I said earlier a 1939 Oldsmobile Tudor Sedan isn't on my radar of a typical Hot Rod.. It seems somebody in the past felt it would be the perfect canvas to build exactly what they had in mind.. The closer you look at this thing the more interesting it gets,.. From the paperwork in the glove box, to the air freshener, seat covers, engine swap, air cleaners, home made tri-power.... even the decals in the rear windows,... It all tells a story of somebody back in the day wanting to do something different in the Heyday of Hot Rodding.... I thought you guys might get as big of a kick out it as I did..... (Okay,... forgot how to upload pictures. I'll try to load them later)

I never felt that a Hot Rod needed to be a certain make or model car. It looks like he used a two barrel manifold an added a carb in the front and back with some welding. I like it, it is different for sure.

I’d imagine that thing scoots down the road pretty well.
That would make a fun party car. I like it.

By the way,... it has one glass pack, But it has a 4:08 diff. so its cranking at 55 mph. He thinks he found a 3:22... And Yes it's factory cast iron intake with mounts for the other two brazed on.

I got to drive a 40 Chevy 4 door in the 50's with an Olds engine, it was a really neat sleeper. So I think your friend did well.

I have wondered what you meant by Northern Mi. I live over by Forest Lake, not to far from you.

Irv like to get things up and running, He's talking about changing out the 4:08 rear gear to a more "user friendly" 3:22... But he will probably have a little fun with it, and then find it a new home... Then drag something else out of the barn.
