I have a 33 pick up with a steel bed floor, but there is original wood installed below it.
Is there currently a wood kit that can be installed in place of the stock steel floor once
it has been removed? If there is no kit, what would be the procedure and then where
would I source the wood floor boards and stainless rub strips? I've seen many examples
of this customization but have not been able to find any articles or posts about the process.

My 32 pickup has the original floors and they were steel over wood for strength. My bed is original and has never been altered. I have done a couple Mack Hils beds made in Missouri and they offer a straight wood floor option with metal bed strips (plain steel or stainless) Very high quality.

I agree with Krylon32 on the Mack products kit. I have one I am currently fitting in my 34 pickup. I shopped all the other kits and this is most affordable. I went with stainless strips. Around $400 shipped. It comes with oak planks, metal strips, carriage bolts, oak riser strips and rear metal “flashing” that dresses end on planks at tail gate. Oh and instructions too. This is the Mack Hils kit I installed for my pickup. Very pleased with the product.

Got a Menards near by? Haven't done it yet but going to try these with some light weight pine boards.

I bought the s/s strips and fasteners from MAR-K, they supplied a dimension sheet. I bought the wood locally and routed them myself. Saved a bunch. 100_1559.JPG

The issue I see using those strips is the holes are not going to line up with the crossmembers and frame and they are round rather than square holes for the carriage bolts.

The pictures of your finished wood beds are breath taking I would certainly like my project to turn out that nice.
I'll look into the Mac Hills suggestion, and the help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

here is my finished bed almost a year later. Just bolted her down yesterday. Took a propane weed burner to the planks, hit them with a new brass bbq grill brush to knock off loose stuff and to expose some of the wood grain and then several coats of Teak oil. I made my own boards from oak, and used stainless strips that have hidden bolts. You may not notice, but I adjusted the width of the boards so that they match the spacing of the vertical beads on the front panel. I just think it looks better. IMG_7955.jpeg IMG_7962.jpeg IMG_7966.jpeg

I just ordered a bed for my '34 RPU project on Thursday from Mack Hills.
I ordered bed sides for my Cameo project last year from Mar-K but saw they are now bankrupt and out of business . I am hoping that the Mack Hills bed is good.

IMG_1434.jpeg I did this one back in 2010. I too lined up the strips on the head board beads. Local wood worker friend made the planks for me
