Hot Rods Time definitely gets away from you. Roadster off the road 1477 days

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fat ASS Whitewalls, Apr 12, 2025.

  1. I'm very happy. Life problems were what kept it off the road, an oil leak took it off the road, and other things delayed it getting back on the road. I just realized the state fair is coming to town Thursday for ten days, we usually leave town for those days, but wife didn't want to this year, so I don't know how much driving I will do in it until all the out of town dumbasses leave. This Friday is a little cruise in in Smithton MO. about 16 miles from home. I plan to drive it to that.

Glad to hear it. My roadster also has a leak I need to address. It kinda takes the wind outta your sails…. Mine has been down about the same amount of time.

Family comes first, I had no idea your wife had health issues but I am certainly glad to hear she is better, stepping away from hot rods is disappointing but spending the time with your bride is the right choice, the hot rods will wait nd now that time has come for you to reacquaint yourself with your roadster.

Have fun and take the boss lady out for a spin. HRP

  7. I finished cleaning the Roadster up today. It looks as good now as it did when I built it over 30 years ago. Right after I built it, I drove it to Goodguy's Pleasanton. Rod auction magazine shot a feature on it, it was in their August 1995 magazine. I need to get a battery. It was dead when I finished cleaning it up, so no drive tonight. Tomorrow I'll take care of the battery situation, and my shop is a mess, so that will get cleaned up too. So here's a picture of it in the messy shop that wouldn't post earlier.

And here's one of the Great Grand Daughter backing it into it's parking spot.

  8. Reconditioned $55.00 battery installed. I didn't get to the shop until later today, but put the battery in and she fired right up. Then I changed a kill switch in my S10. Tried to change the blades on my big mower, it has three, but the darn bolts get so tight I can't get them loose. I had a piece of pipe I used to slip over the blade and lock it into place, and I can't find it. I might have used it for another project. So that will get taken care of tomorrow.

    too tight for an impact?

  10. Yes, to tight for an impact. I tried 4 different one's, one electric, one battery, and two air. They get tight like this all the time, but these seemed even tighter. I put them on myself. So today I made a new piece of pipe to keep the blades from spinning and got one blade off, the socket broke on the second one, and rounded the bolt head off, so I cut the head off the bolt. The stub twisted out by hand. Off to get a new socket, impact style this time, and new bolts. Got back home after fighting the fair traffic and closed streets. I got the last blade off. I use anti seize, and put grease on the bolt head and washer, and new blades are on. About 8pm I decided to go for a ride in the Roadster. Beautiful evening. Sun going down to the west, full moon coming up to the east. Beautiful. I take the back roads and stay out of town. I pulled onto the highway, and that heads to town, right to the fairgrounds. My turnoff is way before town. No traffic. I get on it and go through the gears, run it up to about 85+ in third, let off, and let it coast down to about 50, speed limit is 55 there. look in the mirror, no traffic. Look in the mirror again, I see headlights coming fast, I speed up to the speed limit, fucker comes up right on my ass. I speed up to 60, still on my ass. The fucking idiot passes me on a double yellow, going up hill. Just as he clears my frontend a car crests the hill coming the other way, dumbass swerves back over and just misses hitting the other car. How I wish it would have been a cop. The town is thick with them now. Hope the stupid fuck doesn't kill someone on his or her drive home. I plan to drive it to Smithton tomorrow night, but after that I don't think I will get much seat time until the fair is over. On a positive note the Roadster is running great.

  12. Well plans changed, I didn't get to drive my car to Smithton. I'm disappointed. 5 minutes before I was ready to leave we got invited to go see the great grand kids and have burgers. The wife was happy, so I gave up my plans so I could take her. Beautiful night too. It would have been a great night for a Roadster ride. Oh well. Maybe next time.

  14. So today was the last day of the fair. They are running Sprint cars tonight. I live in the country about 6 miles from the fairgrounds, I can hear the Sprint cars running when I go outside. That makes me smile. The weird thing is I don't hear the concerts. Anyway, I should be getting some driving time in soon with the old Roadster. I'm glad the fair is over, but it really didn't bother me this year. It's been really HOT, but I don't mind the heat, I rode a mower all day today. Heat index was over 100. As long as the car doesn't run hot, the heat won't bother me.

    Dean,

If a Missouri H.A.M.B. get together in Lebanon happens will you be there? See replies 667 and later of this thread.

If that doesn't happen we should set up a west-central Missouri get together this fall. You, me, Tim, porknbeaner, Austin Kays, cactus1, and numerous other folks from the 'burbs and surrounding areas.

Anyway, sorry to hijack your thread. The roadster is looking as good as ever. I'd sure like to see it and you sometime. It's been a LONG time since we last met up at MoKan.

  16. Hey Atch, good to hear from you. I was at MoKan this last Saturday for the SPAM drags, but the Roadster wasn't. It's getting harder to drive the old Roadster, well really getting in and out of it is becoming a challenge, it's still pretty easy to drive. I'm not 20 anymore, or even 30. But I did drive it today. After a HOT sweaty day in the shop I needed to put the Roadster away, I hopped, well slid into it, and went for a short ride. It was nice. As far as a get together, that all depends on what life events are happening then. It's getting harder to get away, and an overnighter is completely out of the question anymore. But I will try and make something work.

  17. Beautiful day here today. Had to run to the parts store, so I decided to drive the Roadster. Picked up the part I needed, and ran around and visited some Buddy's. Car ran great. Had to get gas, and it had a crowd around it. People honking, waving, etc as I was driving. I guess you just don't see anything like it around here. I still have a little oil spray, but not enough to stop me from driving it. That's something I'll look into when the weather turns. I think it might be coming from the crank pulley.

  20. Oh cool! Had a lot of fun today. When I was parking, the stock "T" was pulling in. I had the guy doing the parking for the show park the stock "T" next to mine. It was cool seeing the difference between the two cars, both the same year, The stock "T" is really nice. One of the better ones I've seen. A family walked up, the little girl wanted her picture taken with my car. After they took that picture, I told them to go ahead and put her in the drivers seat and take her picture. I think that made her day.
