A lot of guys with what they think are fast street cars want to run in the USFRA' 130 or 150 cl*** until they get to the line with the entry fee. I talked to a local guy at a show a while back who thought that he was just going to go down and pay what amounts to spectator fee and make a p*** who about ****ped his britches when I told him that the fees for the 150 cl*** ran 465.00 and that is a ton less than running at speedweek.
Well, the weather looks good(so far). Can't speak to actual salt/course conditions. They were not great at speedweek. Only about a 1/2 inch salt crust at the start line area. Damn shame what's happening there. Here's a pic of current conditions: https://horel.chpc.utah.edu/data/station_cameras/bflat_cam/bflat_cam_current.jpg
I just ran the 130 club a couple weeks ago. Model A coupe with a 261 Chev 6. Got up to 118. Standing start 1 mile run. This was my 5th time. Like they say "It only sounds easy". Anyway, salt was pretty good and hard, but as others have said, it's very thin.
When I was there it was driving on damp sand. We drove my car out there from Central Missouri, made 10 attempts at it with 2 drivers. I got a best of 129.6 something. Then drove it back home.
Well, looks like I'm not going to make it to WF. Again. Best of luck to all the racers! Go fast and be safe!
Leaving at O-dark-30…grandson in the seat and great grandson will be there to see his dad…..4 generations on the salt!
Salt is dry and looks great driving in and the pits. Driver meeting in the morning. Never more than 10-12 in the inspection line. Looks to be about 100 or so entries. We are pitted next to HAMBers Marcia and Frank from Pennsylvania with their GMC pickup; what great people they are. Try to get photos tomorrow.
Good that the salt is looking good. People that have never ran there have no idea what it is like and what it can be like.
I am Dum to Land speed competing / compe***ion. Afew dum questions , What does are Entry fee for , & why different amount the faster you go? Are you competing against others for Trophies, $, Name in Archives and Do***ented or is it just bragging rights and a Br*** tag ? So was or is it more of remarkable That in the 1917 ish - 35 Going 276 mph , With out all the Technology that used to day , Or Now speed & a faster Et @ that speed from start to finish ?
Where did you get some of these ideas?… An answer to one of your questions is? Yes we are racing for HUGE purses…I’m still waiting for the one for my first “cl***” speed record set in 1975!
I know Very little about L-S Compe***ion. Thank you for one answer Big purse payout. How does that pay out determine? Is this why different & higher Entry Fee's for speed cl***'s ? Again Dum to understanding of ,Neaver knew of any one to discuss understanding of In modern day compared to less Technology of a earlier time. For what I have seen here & there Neat cool Build's , Technology. Then I am back to speed . Speed is one thing from A-B , Now in Modern day maybe starting In 70's, 80's, & so on doe's ET apply Matter also from A-B or just Speed? Seem's back in beginning It was just about Top Speed Vs Man , Human machine, Physics and science. Just random example's of Pre War ,, Many others. 1927 , The SunBeam "Slug" speed record set 203.79 mph In 1935 Blue Bird ? over 300 mph 1911 141 mph 1902 ish 75- 100 mph In modern Day starting I do not know Lets say 1980 to present What Cl*** would these cars/vehicles fallen , Compete in ?
Jimmy Six is pulling your leg...There is no money in Land Speed racing, that's how it has remained true to its roots.
Ok , Ha Ha ! Why the different in Fee's for Higher Speed ? Yes I under stand a Race course , 98 % safe place to do High speed . Why 3 - 5 miles maybe longer runs . Endurance of the components? I do not Know how to Ask the question information I am woundering about . My thinking Less is more Impressive and with the Accomplishment. SCTA Name in a book , Tag , Bucket list to do. I am thinking there are new cl***es experimental like using rubber bands? The purpose if not going for 240 ish plus , @ a race corse. I feel do not need to be @ track even To run a Fuel car to over 300 plus for the ride Not @ 1,000 ft thou ,, But 1,500 to 2,260 feet . Road in Desert or private land .. Take all Lawer **** away ,Let driver decide if he wants to do. NHRA , has limit's , holding cars back Spectators safety shut down not long enough... Me If I had $$ experience Pilot / Drive have a cl*** challenge T/F F/c or other cl***es .For Bragging rights ,Tunning skill's go to airport Prep surface , Single run's a True 1/4 No rule & see what a Modern 500 cid will go Speed & Et , Many places in middle No where to To take your own chance of speed runs For thrill , say you did , for the Experience , & putting all On You. Seem to remember in early 90's A write up article in Hot Rod Mag somewhere in the Midwest Desert, Cobra , Do not remember if one Carol Shelby Personal car's , Dark Blue Or Black , seem to remember powered by a K -B BBC , going over 200mph Or maybe 240 range on Hwy out west . I tried to Look up in H-R Mag archives was unable to access to verify my memory. Or the urban legend where Guy purchased J2 pack @ military surplus installed in back of Impala ,driver Did not survive but I believe the estimate was over 300 mph by Crater of impact made..my understanding took a while For them investigators to figure out what the crater how was made ,what caused it , then led to like a mile before Tire sliding marks , then asphalt grooved and ground up, metal to asphalt seem to appear trying to stop J pack still under power . evidence research led to Guy purchased J2 , Just trying to under stand L-S racing. From late 1800 to maybe 1965 or earlier It was about Top speed I'm ***uming, Then I am guessing cl***es came along 60's Then Top speed in per cl***es ,
Where do you get the information for different fees for speeds? At any SCTA-BNI Speed Week or World Finals Meet. The pre paid entry is the same for a 100 mph 50cc motorcycle as it is for the 475 mph Turbinator streamliner.
550 entry fee for pre enter for World of speed and 650 if you don't pre register and show up to race. That might happen when a regular Racer like Jimmy Six doesn't think that they will make an event for some reason or another and manage to go at the last minute. USFRA isn't cheap either with a Total of 365 dollars to be able to make 5 p***es in the 130 MPH cl*** or 465 to run in the 150 mph cl*** and a lot more in the actual cl***es. Plus your car still has to p*** Tech for it's speed cl*** Terms of Service 1 — Utah Salt Flats Racing ***ociation
