Bobs Classic Auto Glass is in Oregon, west of Eugene. He has dimensions for everything Super knowledgeable car guy
Great find! I would suggest standing back and taking a side profile picture now that the window is opened up. Whether the glass fits or not, it wont be worth anything if the window placement itsels stinks. The quarter windows have a very nice shape as do the door tops. Its a really nice car! Worst case you can chuck a lexan window in there now cut modeled after a 51 glass, and mess with recutting the roof after you drive it a bit. Not the best course of action, but lexan has worked (rear only) Good luck with it!
Here’s a quick update on the status of the car. I’ve found some unexpected Bondo’d spots, but that was expected around the patches. I’m going to work the metal a bit and see if we can’t straighten a bit of it out. My neighbor offered up his shop and car lift to work on the car. I’m super fortunate as he was a body guy for his career. Unfortunately he’s got cancer so can only help a little bit. But apparently having my car there and working on it with him is helping him just as much as he’s helping me. Interesting how things work out. Currently waiting on a rear glass piece to see how it drops in. While waiting on that, primarily focused on the lower half of the car, as you can see. Dude, you need to post your pictures full size. It’s just one little button at the top of the photo list page. Super easy to do, and then we all can see what you are doing.
This is amazing. I would have walked away from that car due to the back window, thinking if it was covered that there was something awful they were trying to hide… nope! A beautiful 51 opening under there. Congratulations! I hope the stock glass fits.
I'd bet the glass no longer fits the frame. my buddy had the same problem on a 52 Chevy he had chopped. door tops were crooked, sail panels were much more flat they they should be and now he finds out the rear glass won't fit.
Well, here's hoping the body man next door can help with any fit issues. Treat him well, thank him for what's done, don't pie-in-the-sky him, just ask him to show and tell at his pace and try to learn. Looking at the end changes a man. Make sure that you can get your car out, too.
Nice Hot Rod. What is it's history. Yes, the rear window look wrong....but hey, you go something to do.
Thats a PRETTY DAMN SOLID CAR right there!!!!! Im a softspot for them chopped mercs!!!!! Gonna be nice...
