Does any one know any thing about this car????? l'll tell you this story. l was up country a couple of years ago and was chattin to a couple of locals around the camp fire, about life and what each of us are up to. Any how l started talking about some of my cars and so on and this lady asked me if l would like to buy an old hotrod from the 50's. Sure of course, for the right price, and it sure was, but it was just the Body. Any how we go over to there place and check this thing out, and it's seems to be about 1916 Dodge roadster, and its had alot of work done to it. So l buy the thing, and lm wondering how am l going to load the body on a back of an Snowmobile trailer, with two atv's on the trailer so we land some plywood on the back trailer. l park the bike's on the plywood, to extend the deck of the trailer then tie the body down to the deck to get the car home. The car was original from the Vancouver area. So lm hoping some of you old timers on here might know the car. l also seen a car that looks just like this car on a cover of an old magazine from 1957 but its a picture of a of a cover in another magazine. Of the frontend of the car and when you look at the picture's that l posted, you can see what lm talking. You can see there isnt to many cars around that have a frontend that looks like the one on this car. Some one went and did alot of work to the body and hardly used any filler on the car. l dont know, but l dont like the look of the extened front end. The car sports a 40 Ford dash and they stretched front of the car. lm not going into every thing l will just show you the pictures then You guys can tell me what you think or know... Or should l wreck a piece of history and buck the front end off..??? So lets here some feed back... ;D
Its not talking to me. If you cant find some history, I think I would start over with some sawzall blades......
First impression is that it started life as a Dodge Coupe. It does remind me of a car that would have been in the green pages of Hot Rod in the early 1960's. I'd hold of cutting into it until I found out the history on it.
I like everything but the extended front end. Has a look of the ala kart nose. Still make a cool old rod. build it.
Reminds me of the Road Race type. Kind of a "Torpedo Roadster" style with the extended front and the cutdown on the body sides.
build it as is, dont cut that... even if you cant find pics, it could be soooooooooooooo cool! **** it is now!
it was hot stuff for the rodders to kick *** on the sporty car guys after Ak Miller then Ol Yellow (can't spell Max's last name) had a friend that started building one, we all called the white whale it was almost as ugly but it ran like stink and we quit laughing in his face
That car must have some history. The headlight design seems really familiar to me. I wouldn't cut it, at least until you find some more info on it.
the story seems a bit breif from the previous owners .. any extra leads in that direction possesion time, age of owners, whom, where is the rest ,ch***is, engine ,parts pile... any photos from this group of owners?
that reminds me of an old european open wheel race car. i can envision it with a wild straight 8 or maybe even a v12 screaming around Nürburgring. flying down the back stretch with all cylinders screaming. whatever you do, dont cut i up. it would be cool if it had some stand-alone headlights (not mounted in those scoops) and use the scoops for ram-air into the carbs (or supercharger if you will) a little roll bar loop behind the drivers head.
Well the people that l picked the car off of didnt know that much about the car. There was a Model T grill with it but they wanted $400.00 for it ,so l said they could keep that part. Her Husband bought it in Vancouver Canada years before and he didnt do nothing with it, so it just hung out. What lm going to do is talk to some of the oldtimer's around and see what l can find out.
I would really hesitate about cutting that up ... seems lie it has all the potential to be someting cool and unique even if you don't know the history. Yeah, just imagine a straight eight in there a v-12 like 122 Wagon said. I think the headlights would look *****en tucked into those soops with those motorcycle fenders like on the cover of that rod & custom. Damn. Cool find. Think before you cut!
Everybody's right about the Hot Rod vs. Sports Car duels going on back then, but that headlight treatment immediately reminded me of R&C's "THE" Roadster. I spent a week or two some 15 years ago trying to recreate its lines in a buildable project and decided Henning & Ritch took too many liberties with the laws of physics and spatial relationships. The headlight fairings tell me someone else took it into metal fab before deciding the same thing. PS -- Ed Roth did, however, springboard from "THE" Roadster to the start of the original Beatnik Bandit. He had to do a lot of reconfiguration to get to the finished product though.
I'm thinking that body started out as a 21ish to 25 Ford T Coupe. I too wouldn't cut it. If all you'd be using is the basic body tub, you could probably find some other body panels and come up with the same thing.
I'm sure if you cut it a little here & there & got the proportions a little, no, alot better,, it wouldn't be bad. Billy
I don't know what the rest of you guys are seeing, but I think that thing is ugly. It may have some history but I think whoever tore it back apart long ago had the right idea.
I could live with the long nose. Actually I kinda like the long nose. I'm not crazy about the shape of the body on back, kinda hump backed. I still wouldn't change it. Can you get a guess at the wheelbase by where the notches are cut front and back?
To me that is a really cool wall hanger. I would hang it on the wall of my shop [if it had high walls] and admire it for the rest of my days. That thing has ALOT of character. I love funky stuff like that and I wish I'd found it!
I have to throw in my two bob. Please don't start cutting until some of the history comes out fro this thing!! If you didn't lay out a huge wad of dollars it shouldn't kill you to store it for a while. Like the car or not, our history is something we should all try to keep. Doc.
Having seeing this car in person it is **** ugly, but history is irreplaceable. Find the history and restore it, If you dont like it sell it to somebody who will do it right.
