Seems to me that one of these large scale engine models could be built by some "brainiac" with a 3-D printer. In other words, someone other than me. Maybe even build a Nailhead or a Y-Block. Suppose it could have already been done as a one-off.

built one in the mid-sixties.... it 'ran' but it was not pretty... some of the glue 'showed' in the transparent parts...
of course none of my model cars were 'pretty' when completed... used brush for painting.... too much glue
    built
    red baron
    garbage truck
    57 ford fairlane 500
    68 vette
    56 F100
    and quite a few more
some of them may still be packed away in basement clutter... if they survived some moves

I started building car models around '55 that eventually included the Visible V8, 1/8 Chevy V8 and many large and small scale hot rods and customs. Several were lost over the years as other members have, but some did survive, including the Lindberg motorized Y-block-engined Bobtail T, Monogram Big Deuce and a few AMT 3-in-1s. Very good memories!

It is still available today from Amazon, Summit, Hobby Lobby. spruces range from $99-$117. It's a little different no electric starter to turn it. They show a hand crank now. I had one when I was a kid and one as an adult (old man) that is partially assembled in my basement. Then to aggravate my adult son I bought one for my 7 yr. old grandson. They have yet to work on it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the slant 6 model kit. I built one when I was a kid. I believe it came out before the Visible V8.

I remember having one of those v8 kits when I was a kid, likely it was the later version. Like most of my car stuff, I managed to break it. I was pretty rough on models, and that translated into being pretty hard on the real cars for a few years.
I had a pretty large model collection, but one day I decided to sell it. Then a year or two later, I started a second model collection. I kept most of that collection all the way through getting married, moving a few times, and starting a family. I had them stored safely in our basement until my son found them. One of those models was a ramp truck car hauler, my son was into the Dukes of Hazard, and the ramp truck became the perfect launching point for most of my model car collection! Most had been "jumped" off the ramp before we found his discovery and play time entertainment. I still have most of the still damaged models I figured were repairable, they are in a storage bin in my basement. They will probably still be there when my son has to take care of our stuff after I am no longer here. I'm pretty sure when he opens that bin, its going to bring back some of his childhood memories!

My friend that I share my garage with got this when it first came out . He built it. It got put into storage. He decided it would look good at the garage. I was there this morning and snapped this picture. It has been in the garage for over 20 years

WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT,I though i wanted one,but cost was just out side my play.
I thought it looked a lot like a Studebaker V8 to me....

  10. Me too.

Speaking of V8 models, have any of you seen or built one of the Cison 1/6th scale 44cc running V8 models? They seem to be available for a bit more than $50 bucks...and they run! They look to be a fun way to kill a day type project.

I’ve seen those ads before and found the cheap ones don’t run at all. Your link leads to the FB advertisement. I clicked the link and found no engines but a lot of crappy looking clothes. I’m not sure it was what you were thinking it was

John - Great shop art! So you're in a different garage now?

@anothercarguy , thanks for that updated link. I had seen the running little V8’s before so I decided to do a Google search to see what they were all about

  17. Yeah, I saw some of those big numbers too...but then again, they're under $50 from the following website...so?? I figured it was a cheap enough experiment...so I ordered one. We'll see what I get.
