did i just see a car parallel park itself on TV just now.... (lexus) pretty soon it will be "just sit down and let the car take you to your destination"god damn....
yes you did...i've been chewing that over for a few days now. i know, i have an idea...let's figure out how to make people even more lazy and less skillful on the fucking road.
to much technology. thats what i hate about new cars.... they prevent stupid people from killing themselves.
Yeah, parallel parking is not the most difficult thing to do, just takes a little practice. Rediculous.
What ever happened to the idea of teaching people how to drive the stupid car?????? AND THEN DOING IT?????
Nah! Only one cell phone 'cause I gotta eat my burger with my other hand while I sip my soda at the same time.
Oddly enough,I read about it in an article in Car & Driver yesterday while waiting in my local barbershop. C&D had a test of the LS460 (?) with a sidebar about the autopark option. No price ,but the details of how it worked. Seems it's very slow and has to be tweaked manually before the car will steer itself into the space. The driver still controls the gas /brake pedal. C&D's comment was that in real life ,someone had time to swoop into the space before you got all the things set ...but ,that faster reacting components were probably in development
I saw the ad two weeks ago. I think if you buy this car, concerned citizens should be waiting at the dealer ship exit with bus passes. Just hand over your license and you will be issued a life time bus pass. If somebody cant park their car they have no business driving.
Who's responsible if your car hits another car? I mean technically, you weren't driving right? Send the bill to Lexus, I was just a passenger. I read a statistic recently that more cars with ABS are involved in accidents than without, because people don't know how to use them, then figure that once they learn, and then get back into a non ABS, they'll have problems there too. I just read a post here about a guy who paid $400 for a computer to fix his TURN SIGNALS on a ford truck! Thank God I drive old stuff, I better build another garage and start stocking up for the future I guess.
Popular Science or Popular Mechanics showed this in the mid 50's already. Installed in a 55ish Caddy, there was a fifth wheel that would come down out of the trunk, perpendicular to the other wheels, so you could nose into a parking spot, and the fifth wheel would bring the back end of the car into the spot. Nothing new to freak out about.
theres a big difference between that 5th wheel thing and this. you are still actually driving the 55 caddy, you arent touching th wheel on the lexus.... plus parallel parking a 55 caddy is a task. i know.. because i had one. but yet, I STILL DID IT! and LEARNED how to do it!
Anyone who buys one of those should be smashed in the face with a 2x4 and have their license revoked.
Who cares... I'm still upset about the introduction of Syncho's in Gearboxes. Lots of people dont know how to shift, let alone double clutch... ( to give this thing a Traditional perspective...)
Sapose theres a glitch and it decides to park its self on the freeway at 70MPH?...........That might be fun to watch.
An extra 10 gs so you can park that sounds worth it to me. And what is the big deal about my Mercury. You should see the old girls Ram Charger.
what line i gotta get into to watch that fuckin train wreck. i was watchin the idiot box with mama F the other night,,, she pipes up and says "LOOKIT THAT CAR!!!" not used to her getting excited about a car, i looked up expecting to see a big daddy style lunatic ride, or maybe a cherry zephyr on the tube, only to see that shitheap doing its thing. fast forward button engaged, thank god for TIVO, case closed.
Oops I Just Parrallel Parked When I Meant To Set The Cruise Or Was It The Cd Changer Or Was It The Rear Window Defogger Or Was It The Clock To European Time Or Was I Callin On Star Or Resetting My Seat Back Oruntilting My Wheelor Opening The Trunk.... Etc Etc... Damn And I Can Walk To The Curb From Here Anyway
My dad was really proud when he could afford a new '55 Buick Roadmaster, and I've always smiled remembering how he taught me to parallel park that huge land yacht so I could pass my driver's exam in 1956. What are Lourdeses and Maddoxes gonna remember in 2031 about THEIR exam? How they hit the "Autopark" button? The more we buy, the more we lose.
My first thought about the self parking Lexus was also "What happens when this kicks in on the freeway, or going around a corners????" They don't teach parrellel parking in drivers ed. here anymore, or much of anything else. i took my daughters out and taught them to park befroe they took their liscense tests, took about ten minutes to teach them to parrellel park. I also saw a segment on a newscast about the self braking car from, I believe Ford. If you get "too close" to the car in front of you it vibrates the seat and if you don't start braking, it will do it for you. Probably actually a good idea for the cell phone crowd.....we'd probably be better off if there was a self driving option on most new cars since the people driving them don't know how.
oh yea i know from previous post you guys dont like bmw either, but they have it so the person gets out of the car and hits a button on the key and it does it its self (just a little info you yall)
