  1. What are your cam specs and what type of spring pressure on the seat are you running?

Finally have tomorrow off from work. In the morning I will be installing the new 8.000 pushrods and setting the valves. Then start putting the engine bay back together. We did order the 12 circuit harness the other night. If I remember I will take and post the pic's of the current setup to the new setup on the pushrods. But in the afternoon it's tree stand therapy!

The pic I'm posting is a list of cam's I chose from. The one in the middle with the dot is the one we are running. 20250121_204133.jpg

So yesterday I swapped the pushrods out. What a difference .200 makes. The 8.000's set the roller tips in the center of the valves stem tips and also adjusted a lot easier than the stockers. Also had plenty of thread in the poly locks for the locks. Got the oil pump primer installed and forgot to install the oil pressure gauge tube. Shot oil like a gyser. Cleaned that mess up and installed a new tube to the gauge. Spun the drill again and forgot about the plug on the front of the engine and made another mess. Got that plug installed and showed 50 psi on the gauge and oil flowing through all the push rods and rockers. Installed the starter, valve covers, intake, carb, and exhaust. A few more items to wait on being shipped and installed. Then we can fire this mouse up, break in the cam and take her for a spin. 20250915_200857.jpg 20250915_200903.jpg

That is going to be unbelievably loud to drive. Remember to wear your ear protection.

What type of trans cooler are you guys running? There is no room to put one in front of the radiator. So I'm wondering if anyone is using the finned tube style and where did you mount it?

Not to be busting on Op car with Zoomies
Not going to sound right with out
12:1 plus compression and right cam ,
    Idle & normal throttle.
My 5w I installed set of Borla straight threw round S.S. because of true 4 link & @ idle to 3,500 rpm's sounds like my 1950 farm tractor , Ahh horrible!
But up on converter to WOT sound like my Borla VR1's collector mufflers like used on TopDragster Super Comp .
I can not Believe the way it sounds
With 10:5 static compression with a Big bore roots . I honestly do not know if
Mufflers or all the Tight radius turns to make fit using Fabrication donuts

19Eddy30 how did the finned tube do while in stop and go traffic like a cruise-in? With no air flowing over it I guess it's better than nothing.

Do not under stand your question?
I am like a few others here spend time & work @ a track , Hear & see many different drag , street vehicles for over 50 years ,
Fc , Dragster & Pulling header's are Unique sound when
Alot of Compression & large cam shaft,
    To me Just @ idle , if not @ 1,500 to 2,500
    Rpm's ,,
Your Zoomies , to long , shorter better
Like 12-15 inch from ports ,
& Are not going to sound correct @ idle 500 to 4,000 rpms , Just loud ,,, Not even like a H-D drag pipes,
& all those drag pips do not sound ,made equal ,,, Needs compression .

I am not kidding about my 5w with the
    Straight threw mufflers it sounds
Awful , I idle 1,000 rpms Much radical
Cam then your & blower with 10:5 static compression ,

    Even so-many with long Tube
4 into 1 collector Open do not sound right
    Below 1,000 rpms .

The round Borla on 5w Now
The XR1's are other 2 pictures,
on large cid sbc 700 plus

    I might put the XR1s on 5w
The little 383 is only 630 hp .

I think his question was directed towards the finned trans cooler.

    With Tube style with fines,
3,200 converter / stall , I also use extra sump trains pan TCI cast aluminum
I had No issue ,, when moving there a lot of air flow underneath
On As & 32's aslong as frame not
5 inches off ground a Very deep Channeled ...
I am just one that does thang's & test ,
When I get a Ideal thinking about I try
With test ,,, I used temp probes
In cooler lines , I also used / had test Temp probs @ bottom of radiator shell
    Ambient air temps flowing under
car at different location so I could test
Temps while sitting still & driving .

On my 32 , in Fall when temps are below 55 degs I have to install plug
On air dam to trains cooler to get temp to 160ish trains temp in pan ..

Thanks for the info. The pipes on the headers I built are not done. I'm going to cut them all equally across. More of a work in progress.

Got a lot done the past few days. Front of the car is rewired. Engine is done other than the cooling and fuel systems finished. Gave my old man the old dash board and he cut out a new one in walnut. Installed the new gauges and switches. A couple more full days and it will be time to fire it up. Still need to get a new drive shaft made before it can run down the road. 20251008_132949.jpg 20251008_150005.jpg 20251008_150015.jpg

Spent the past 2 days getting more wiring done. The trans controller and it's parts are all installed and wired up. The dash is almost ready to be installed. Still have to finish wiring the tail lights and get the dash installed. Then set it back on the ground and measure for the drive shaft. Install the cooling system and fuel line. Then fire it up and break in the cam.

Finished the wiring today and dash is ready to be installed. Radiator is installed as well. Getting closer!

Finally back at the work on the roadster. Dash is in and coolant system installed and full. Tomorrow I hope to finish hooking up the grounds, install new fuel lines and get the trans cooler installed. Top off the trans and get ready to fire up the new motor and break in the cam.

Well a local speed shop closed it's doors recently so I had to order the trans line kit. It will be here tomorrow. Life got in the way today so no progress.

Ok fuel system, coolant system and the trans cooler are installed. Attempted to fire the motor and it wanted to but the battery is garbage. So a new battery tomorrow with some fresh fuel and try again.

Carb ****erfly's adjusted close, gas in bowls Should fire right up .
Me I think I would of snagged batt out of my DD two vice grips two 3/8s bolts if side post from DD ,

19Eddy30 the DD battery is too big! Gas is in the bowl's but the old battery is cranking too slow. I'll report back when it's up and running. I will also post pic's of the new dash.

The radio didn't work and wouldn't hear it over the exhaust anyway so it was deleted.
