I'm looking for pictures of 1960-1963 Mercury Comet drag cars/g***ers. I'm guessing these weren't very popular drag cars back in the day because Falcons were cheaper? I've been wanting to build a 1962 Falcon g***er for a while, but I've been having trouble finding the right car, and a 1961 Comet just popped up for sale. I'm considering buying that instead, just need some inspiration (?) to help me decide. This is the only vintage pic I could find. It seems the 64-67 cars are a lot more popular.
An actual Comet drag racer build for daily driving? In coastal So Cal? Will wonders ever cease? Hello, Wouldn’t you know it that the color “Red” stands out from any moving vehicle or from a far away scene with other more modern cars in the standard black, grey, and white colors so prevalent, today. Yes, as I was concentrating on the traffic and parked cars making the streets narrow for all vehicles, my wife saw a red blur sitting in a parking spot. So, yes we had to turn around and go back to see what it was. Out of the side of my vision, I did see something red sitting by the curb. We went to the next block and turned around for a better look. It is not everyday that one sees a full set up drag racer for daily driving and a Mercury Comet no less. Yikes! Everyone likes a nice rear end, but, this one needed a new bumper. The stance was not a cruising rake, but a slightly raised front end. Not garish like some fake Gas Coupes and Sedan Cl*** racers, with the “nose in the air” look. It was a cool cruiser, but what was lurking in the motor compartment? Jnaki Upon closer inspection, it had a roll bar, cool vintage look with chrome flat spokes and not only a wide set of slicks in the rear, but one of the widest set of slicks we had ever seen on a street driven hot rod sedan. That is one way to get pure traction for any situation... YRMV Or, perhaps, he had a brother set of slicks from the neighborhood tire dealer… The big guy versus a size 12 sandal is quite a comparison.
