Here is an interesting Life Magazine photo of the Muller Brothers Service Station at 6380 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, California, in 1938, that is a few blocks north of Route 66 (Santa Monica Blvd.). It is obviously a posed photo with three service station attendants in white uniforms and two men who appear to be in bellhop uniforms. This station is amazingly clean-looking compared to what the standard station on Route 66 was like in 1938. The car is a '37 La Salle. Gorgeous. The Life photo was probably taken because at this point, Muller Brothers was the largest service station in the world

Art Laceys' Bomber station, Milwaukie Oregon.
Article says 1957, almost looks too fresh and clean.

Late 50s sounds about right. The airplane still faced hwy 99e. It was turned to face north (parallel to the road) some time after that. Here’s an earlier pic:

Does anyone recognize the brand on the pumps?
P.S. Anyone remember the dealership across the street: "Kellum Says Sell”em!"

I'm in SW suburbs so don't know first hand but Google says Kellum was a Nash dealership at least late 40's/early 50's, they were a Datsun dealership in later years.
BTW, the area where the bomber was, was that considered Milwaukie or Gladstone?

It was on the Milwaukie end of 99e, technically in the unincorporated area Oak Lodge. About half a mile south was Oak Grove, then A few miles further south was Happy Rock.

I drive thru that Waynedale intersection fairly regularly but there's nothing even vaguely familiar looking anymore around this area. And hasn't been for as long as I can remember.

This was formerly a Texaco station, if I remember correctly, that's near where I live. The concrete base for the sign and the pump island are still visible. It was named "McCoy's Goldmine" and there was a candy counter inside that was frequented by the neighborhood kids. I can imagine it being operated by another member of the McCoy family mentioned in your post.

I've seen a lot of things in my life, but I've never seen a gas station where you can get your corn ground. So, I typed Danville, VA and moonshine in the search bar and who's name pops up but Danville native Wendell Scott, NASCAR driver and moonshine runner. Now it all makes sense. ;)

The signage is fantastic ---- Coca Cola, Texaco and Dr. Pepper (notice the dot in Dr. Pepper), the gravity fed pumps ... all classic. Houston,Tx.
