Interesting Bus. Note the seeming lack of overhang at the rear!

I had a ride in it once, local streets. It was as fast or better than a 289 Falcon GT,'67 model here.

    Note:
Look at the neat 1964 250cc Honda Scrambler in the foreground. They were very popular street bikes for the times. It was one of my first street motorcycle rides in those times. Nice seats, kick start, great sounds and fun riding around on a hot summer night in coastal So Cal. Hardly anyone wore helmets and wore sungl***es at night... yikes!

    Hello,
The San Diego County race track opened in 1964 and closed in 2004. 40 years was/is a long time in motor sports activity with the main emphasis is a drag strip in San Diego region. But, the other motorsport activity kept the area attractions going for those years. Thinking about Lion’s Dragstrip being the center of all drag racing activity in So Cal for 17 years, then getting compe***ion from OCIR to its closing was about the timeline of the San Diego raceway area staying open all of that time.

The surrounding Lion’s Dragstrip was ripe for industrial expansion, but, eventually, noise complaints from the west winds blowing the sound to neighborhoods as far as 5-8 miles away was worrisome. The newer OCIR was in the center of population tract homes/industrial corporate buildings that literally took over the area. But, at least the international airport was shot down (pun intended) after the dragstrip closed. So, what was left in San Diego County was the Carlsbad Raceway near the coastline.

It gathered a good following in a multiple venue attraction. It gained world wide accolades, continued to grow and kept at it, becoming, a popular place, until the land surrounding it was just too valuable.

Now, in its place are miles and miles of homes and businesses all in the vast area of coastal city area of Carlsbad.

Yes, even the surf was good near and in the Carlsbad coastal areas. The tall chimney from the power plant told all that Carlsbad is right there along the coast. YRMV
