Hello, I am a long time reader and a first time poster. I have a 1941 Cadillac Flathead we are doing some work too, and I have read about people machining the heads to up the compression ratio. I would like to know by those that are the experts in the field, how much can I safely machine off of the stock head (I have read as much as 1/8"). What will this give me for results, and is there anything else I need to be aware of when we do it. I am a high school automotive instructor and this is something we are doing in my cl***.
heh....I'd suggest first that you figure out how to keep the engine cool, in it's stock configuration btdt
Sounds like a great project! Some info on line, some here. Cleaning up the intake & exhaust ports may help a lot.
