Well, I installed the new head gasket and torqued the head as per winduptoy (Larry's) instructions. It is running smoother then it ever has. Hopefully no other problems pop up, but speaking of which, I am getting a pop in the exhaust it seems. Doesn't seem to affect anything, but I did have it before. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Just finished making a new Houk #4 knock off cap that accepts an original Veeder hub mounted odometer. For when your ride needs accessories on it’s accessories!
Looks like I’m going to have a busy September. My engine was shipped last week. Can’t wait to get it running. Hopefully I’ll get a few test drives in October and then work on it all winter. It’s getting there.
Hiya all, There won’t be any progress reports from me this month and probably next month, as I am travelling interstate for work, then home for a week, then off on holidays for a well earnt rest. I’ll be checking in to see what you guys are up to, so please post away
Can anyone confirm if these are Lincoln shock mounts. I recently bought them, and was discussing them with some friends, and they showed me some they recently pulled off a 39 Lincoln coupe. I bought them for my coupe, but they really won’t work with the mechanical brakes due to the offset of the backing plate. I’ll see if I can sell them to recoup some of the money I spent on them, so would like to describe them correctly. TIA
Stove, those are aftermarket shock mounts for use on any Ford or Merc or Lincoln from 32-47. As long as they clear your brake linkage. Might need to change some spacers depending on your thickness of wishbone mounting end. Ford produced some also, but theirs were different lengths on each side. Nobody knows why.
This Saturday Sept 6 Iowa Hillclimb the same day as the one in Cali, if you are closer to Iowa than California bring your banger and race me.
Thanks for this information. The lower mount being of a different size to the top one, tells me it’s to suit 37-48 rears, to allow for the wishbone
Life's been'a busy lately! I've been channeling my inner Bob Ross at work. Waiting on a full bolt set for the engine, and then it should be ready to get swapped. It's an awesome feeling finally having an engine cool enough to run my side timing cover! Unfortunately, my Kong front cover doesn't have a provision for the stock style spring and plunger. Does anyone recommend a thrust button I could adapt to it? I wouldn't mind buying a new cover, although I dont think anyone makes one anymore?
Drill and tap the cover for a 3/8" or 1/2" bolt. Braze the end of the bolt, machine it flat and screw in against cam nose- back off about .010 and lock it down. Done! On edit, I see the cover is open in the front of the cam centerline. Make a small cover, mount it with 3 small bolts and drill and tap that for a thrust bolt. Same deal, just another part to add.
Has anyone ever seen original rocker arm forging for a Cragar Overhead. I have a full set of 8 that I received from a very old estate about 30 years ago. Here are some pictures along with a comparison to an original Cragar Head. They have same foundry marks and profile. What can you tell me about these. Thanks
Was that you with the "A" sedan and MSRA decal in the windshield? If so I talked to you briefly at the show uptown, just before you headed to the airport for the time trials. Unfortunately I had to miss that - wanted to be in Algona and the Iowa Hall of Fame and Racing Museum by 3 or so. Edit: Took pics at the fairgrounds though, posted them here.
Finally got my Model A thru Swiss inspections, and on the road, third one from the far end. Shoplifters Car Club cruise
