I talked to a guy that drives a bus locally,he gave me a few pointers for insurance. Thanks. Is that from dumb and dumber? I sure hope so. I see that you also shortened between the back and the wheel opening... Did you have the high school army help you? I'll probably be by myself again, just my gantry, cherry picker and basic tools.. I have an idea on how the final product will be.. Story is that that guy bought it from an older guy in Az..it used to be an army bus.. You can see some of the olive drab under the blue paint.. I'm on the look out for a hood and front fenders..if you guys are bored and can keep eyes for something my way (online) 51-52 f2 -f6 would be the same i was told. Hopefully will look like that minus the airbags.
Yep. My army of misfits whacked up the bus Used gm c30 front suspension. Swuarebidy stuff Super EZ to drop Static
I think I want to go with c30 suspension. The guy put the bus frame in the bin,I didn't have space or didn't want to remove the shell at my place,he offered to remove the body, cut AND load it onto my trailer.. Poor bastard. In the heat. And I got a title,,,I have a 55 vanette frame with straight rails,it would be easier to work on with the little space I have now, ill piece the suspension with marketplace stuff..I already found a c30 front suspension but it's 3 hours away...for 250..and ge can load it..I just don't have the space.
Here’s a c10 graft to a 57 Chevy van chassis Will plate the inside. The c10-c30 chassis are 34 inches wide at the cowl area. Makes an EZ graft on an old chassis. The track with is probably a good bit wider than stock on your bus though.
I just measured my Ford E350(found another van with a 7.3 that might trade )but the track is too wide,so I measured my C30 track on my gmc coe and it fits better on the bus... I'm going with c30
Ours stayed on it chassis. So that helped a lot. We chose cut locations, removed the not wanted section then the butt. It all went back in factory seams. We removed the factory wheel tubs as well. once the body was put back together we made tubs and the rear floor from new 14 gauge. Also built the floor around the frame notch. we put the floor back together like the factory. Just with the step and deeper tubs
Seth, I have most of the front clip parts you need, but you know how far away I am from Vegas..... Cool project!
Scott,I would love another trip your way.. I loved your neck of the woods... I wanted to build a short bus,I always told my son it would be my last build, however it kinda landed in the middle.. This was meant to be built in the sticks or in a nice full shop, not in a backyard in a quiet neighborhood in Las Vegas... I might just do as much as I can then put it in storage... Just too much shit to do. Fuck the guy that designed CLUTCH type screws!!!
It seemed easy at first, thankfully not a lot of rust repair to be done. The guy messed up a bunch panels with the forklift and created more work than it needed.
Thanks,I removed one floor panel, just bolts holding it but I'll have to raise the shell after I brace it so I can crawl under to remove said bolts... Nasty work...I almost want to cut the floor itself where I can access the bolts from inside... What rivets did you use?
The outside skin has regular pop rivets where we sectioned it. Welded structure. I’ve got real ones to replace the pop rivets with. Haven’t done that yet. Some parts had rounded Phillips head screws. The wheel house outer skin is screwed on makes changing the tire possible plus access to the gas tank.
Front suspension on mine is Zd 4 inches into the floor. 3 inch drop spindles and one coil cut. Add that to the front tire diameter difference and repositioning the front bumper. My fenders were 3 -4 inches higher than the bus body. So we extended them down along with the bumper. The front bumper height is 14-16 inches lower than stock
All I can say is why, and just because you can doesn’t cover it for me… Oversized ratrods is what I see.
Because I wanted to. No other persons blessing was needed. Simple concept A dropped bus was on my bucket list. This particular show along with others agree with your definition I just drive it with a big ole cheesy grin The paint is perfect
Good to know, ill have to bolt the front end to see how much is higher than stock,I told the guy to save the bumpers, the only thing worrying me it's the curved glass,I might have to weld the curve shut and just do flat glass. Not enough short buses around. Right? I'm used to ride the short bus so I want to relive my childhood

The curved glass is almost impossible to find I’m glad mine is flat when I got a tag the DMV lady asked me how many passengers it held. Honestly at that moment it only had one seat so I guessed and said 8-10. Lady said good, I’d need a CDL if over a certain amount. Not sure what that is. For insurance, I called and gave my agent the vin. They sent me a bill. Done
