Jive-Bomber submitted a new blog post: Mystery Movie of the Week: LA Hot Rod circa 1949 Continue reading the Original Blog Post
The film is called And Then There Were Four. It's narrated by Jimmy Stewart. It's got some additional footage of the roadster.
At 2:55, there is a street sign. Locksley Pl. 2700 block. I'd bet some local members could pin down some other locations.
Its nice to see that there were lots of lousy drivers even back then. Not a new phenomena. Beverly Blvd. and Commonwealth Ave. are in East LA area, near Buena Park. Damn hotrodders!
Cool! Another slick 1950’s roadster with headlights mounted quite high to conform to the headlight height law back then.
Frenchtown, Since I grew up in the Silverlake, Echo Park and Atwater area of Los Angeles your info is incorrect. Commonwealth/Beverly Blvd is just south of Silverlake and Buena Park is in Orange County where Knott's Berry Farm is located. In RodStRace's shot of Rowena looking north a number of us drag racers rented an old garage where we kept our cars. It would have been on the left side of Rowena and up aways. The attached photo of my '55 Gasser is parked in front of the garage back in 1966, looking in the opposite direction than RodStRace's shot. That is very near the Glendale turn down. Just to clarify the locations.
I like the way he got into that roadster in the driveway...not many of us would attempt that... I think Mr Sunset Strip Kookie probably influenced the young whipper snapper... That was a cool film indeed.
Hello, It is a common mistake for the different name locations of the streets in the greater Los Angeles Metropolitan area. As one can see, the majority of the old film takes place in Downtown to West Los Angeles area near the Silver Lake region. So, assuming no background icon buildings pop up as the film advances, the Beverly Blvd is in Los Angeles area and not East Los Angeles. Yes, there is a Beverly Blvd. in East Los Angeles, but it is not in the film. The end of Beverly Blvd. in Downtown Los Angeles The original Beverly Blvd. as depicted in the film stops near the 110 or Harbor Freeway and turns into 1st Street, near the arena/convention center. As far as Commonwealth Ave is concerned, it is a major street in the Buena Park area. It was near my wife’s house as she grew up from 1956 to the time we went to college and got married. There is also a Commonwealth Ave. in the Silver Lake Area in the film’s Los Angeles location. The majority of the film takes place near the Silver Lake Area as it is close to Beverly Hills and also downtown Los Angeles. Jnaki It is a simple mistake, but, for those outside of So Cal, a common name for streets in all of the whole area. Who named those streets anyway? YRMV
Thank's Mick. Maybe that should be the other way around then...hey the young un's can teach the older folks new tricks...heck there is a door on that nice little roadster too. He sure didn't have to much to eat either...who can blame him when he's got that to fly around in...
