Helping a friend with an estate cleanout and found some vintage cast iron toys. This one is an Arcade farm model W&K Fordson tractor. I kept searching and found the original man with steering wheel for it. Decided to keep this one in my collection. Found some interesting information about these cast iron toys. This circa 1920's cast iron toy Fordson tractor was made as a promotional for the Whitehead & Kales Co of Detroit, Mich. It is marked (lithographed) FORDSON on the front and with what appears to read; HARIG MOTOR C//LAWR3?357 CO on the top. Additionally, all of the wheels have raised lettering that read: W & K. As pictured, the wheels are solid-disk, not spoked, as Fordson tractors commonly are. Overall, it measures just under 6 inches long, 3 1/8 inches wide and 4 inches tall. The driver, who was rumored to be Henry Ford himself, is a separate casting that is removable. All original, this unusual Arcade Whitehead & Kales cast iron toy tractor will make a great addition to any farm vehicle collection. Of interest, here is something that I learned about the Fordson tractor on the WWW; Fordson was a brand name used on a range of mass-produced general-purpose tractors manufactured by Henry Ford & Son, Inc, from 1917 until 1920 when it was merged into the Ford Motor Company, which used the name until 1964. American engineer, inventor, and businessman Henry Ford built experimental tractors from automobile components during the early 20th century, and launched a prototype known as the Model B in August 1915. He formed Henry Ford and Son in 1910 in Dearborn, Michigan, taking his young son Edsel Ford as a partner, which was later incorporated on July 27, 1917
Great find Ray. I found this old truck at a farm estate sale. It was in walking distance of my house. It was found in the barn. Yeah, it's rough but I like it.
