One more. Asked it to increase size 200 remove scratches and that's it, no color choice. It is entertaining how it changes things up! Looks like a slight Blue tint.

    Hello,

Nice lighter color for the convertible. But, I knew of a similar photo colorizer, but am open to all new stuff. Somehow, as it took longer to get the 1960 image to the correct color fill, I realized, not all AI programs are equal. They can’t see what we can see as a real image and color.

So, I got a simple old B/W photo to add in some real color.

Wow, real hammer peen black primer paint finish makes the old Willys Coupe almost “bullet proof."
    upload_2025-9-30_7-54-47.png
It sure seems that the AI in this case, has no clue as to color for old photos in these two samples.
Those were Howard Cam rear window stickers… It sure seems that the AI in this case, has no clue as to color for old photos in these two samples.

Ok, so one more try with a simple photo and kid.

Now, where would I get a set of clothes like that with the bright colors? in 1948? Ha! Boy, that old 1946 Craftsman House front wooden door looks better than 2025 version house remodel kits. I was a little skinny kid, anyway, but it seems that I lost another 50 pounds... Yikes.

Not all photo programs are good for adjusting any photos... for me, in this case... YRMV definitely!

    So true, @jnaki !
But isn't that true of any tool? I may be great removing a 1/2 bolt but won't work on a panhead screw!
I'm not a big fan of huge elaborate computer farms churning out pretty pictures for our amusement, sucking up power and water. I will not be using them much. But thought I'd give it a go for Royal.

Yeah those aren't very encouraging are they @jnaki...
Your results may vary...took me a while to decipher that but I got it!!!...:p
It's again interesting, can have a wow factor and can be disappointing with what you ask for...I've asked for a 1940 Willys Drag Pickup and a 1940 Ford and truly had little success so again vintage cars are hit and miss...funny how it takes liberties and alters stuff you don't ask of it...

I've told it too and it apologizes...sometimes it does nothing that you ask of it...grrrr

...I met a fella at a local car show recently. We were chatting around the Ole Hotrod and he told me a story about his latest acquisition...a 32 4dr sedan...4 banger and stock, plated last in the early sixties...it was sitting in a barn since it's late owner purchased it way back then...never did a thing to it...it's not a 3w but a unfucked with 32...I told him he was very fortunate...his plan us to get it going as it is for now...

I can imagine his eyes lighting up thinking it was a Abone and seeing a 32...

    They're still out there...

The AI rendering was okay...but I battled textually to get changes to no avail...

Many times a trip to Photoshop would easily fix its most obvious faux pas...

...Again Caddilac's although not detail correct do seem to capture a more credible look...this is unedited...no precious barn dirt at all...hmmmm

I don't have Photoshop, so I tried a few free A.I. generators. I'd say many of them don't understand my instructions and do some really weird crap.

Here is one that came out OK but not exactly what I wanted.

I think it looks pretty good. Yes I understand AI takes liberties and very seldom follows your direct instruction or misinterprets them. @Graystoke did you upload a pic you took or is that a request for an image based on a description?

I was also just having a chuckle over the name of the Restaurant...I guess beans are a hot seller there...:p

Reminds me of a Restaurant here...it's called The Major Gas Restaurant...another that has beans as a top menu Item...:p

    Those came out very well...
@Graystoke, your last two images are pretty accurate especially regarding the Hotrods. I suspect you did as the diner image and uploaded a photo and requested color and surroundings. I will say AI does a much better job in this type of strategy. I actually have never done that till @RodStRace followed up on @Royalshifter's colorization request. It'

So far these did turn out the best for me and rendered the cars very close to my original image. I did have to try twice with the first image, because it reversed the '32 and made it a chopped 5 window that looked more like a Plymouth. o_O

Here is the original that I uploaded.

You have a good eye for Hotrod...that's a nice Deuce...
Both you and Rod have highlighted a strength in AI...modding photos. I have for the most part, again, asked it to create Hotrods and Customs. Backgrounds are pretty credible however. What app are you using? Is it free? I've only used free ones...BING Create, Grok, Gemini...and I've been trying this other one called Night Cafe.

I only use free stuff. I've tried most of the ones you mentioned, but the two I like most are Gemini and SeeDream.
