    Hello,

Im currently in Maryland and wondering if anyone’s familiar with the Jacksonville NC and surrounding areas? Any hot rodders or custom car guys in the area?

Was thinking about possibly moving there in the next year or so.

Charlotte, Raleigh & Winston Salem are the areas where hot rods are more prevalent.

Jacksonville is about a 2 hour ride from Raleigh, you might send Brett a conversation and ask him, he is in Greenville, N.C. and about a hour and a half from Jacksonville. HRP

...Hey Danny, Just out of curiosity, do you think that North Carolina or South Carolina treats the hot-rod, classic car, car culture better considering titling and registration fees, inspections, police harassment, presence of car events, etc. etc.? Thanks.

Don, back when I was in my teens in the 60's the police here in my area watched hot rodders like a hawk, they were always looking for violations, these are some of the things I got nailed for, loud mufflers, speeding, failure to give a signal, brake lights not working, mostly just harassment.

Now most of the officers and much younger and I know some of their fathers, they grew up around hot rods, getting a title for a out of state car without one is still a nightmare, there is no yearly inspections and there is a cruise-in with in 30 Miles every weekend.

Every Fathers Day the downtown merchants put on a huge show and fill the streets full of cars and trucks. HRP

Can’t answer your question, but spent a week in NC in 2018. In from the airport to the hotel. Same route until Friday when we took off to the airport.
We went the opposite way that we came from for the training class when we left. On the left side of the street not more that 500 yards from where we turned, was Joe Gibbs Racing.
All week I was a 1/4 mile away from the place and never knew it was there.
Had I known I’d at least try to stop in and see what it was all about.
    Okay. Back to the thread:)

There is some big shows in Myrtle Beach SC (run to the sun) & Wilmington NC (rims on the river) ,with several car clubs involved. If you do a search for classic car shows in that area it will open doors.

I lived in Charlotte for a few years. With NASCAR headquarters it is a car friendly town. Tons of machine shops, plating, suppliers, and fabricators. I could buy 100 octane alcohol free gasoline at the pump down the street. Cars and coffee north of town (lake Norman I think?) was always big. NHRA has big events at the Lucas Oil strip (top fuel 4 wide). The Hornets are very active club with a big swap meet anualy. Amazing drives in and around the blue ridge. The weather is good too. At the time there was land speed racing at an old airstrip, but that fizzled out a few years ago. Like has been said the BMV isnt easy to deal with.
