I’ve not got the manual with me to look but I’m sure the procedure says that you need to loosen the band adjustment as you install servo and then readjust the band when the servo is in place or it can break the case.

It's the only way to get the band adjustment shoe/linkage into the spot. You have to lossen it and fanagle into place. Then do the adjustment. But my old one was way over tight. You can see in the photos it was complete opposite. I saw a rebuilder videos showing how to set it. But I think I need to split he difference. It was shifting nicely before.
I honestly thing the combo of the high torque starter and the band being too tight and not going down into lo while parking was the magic that made the servo break.

Didn’t know there was more than one. I’ll measure it!

The correct adjustment is to tighten the adjusting screw with the spacer in place, then back the screw off one complete turn and tighten the lock nut. Going tighter than this is probably what broke the servo in the first place. A flare on the 2-3 shift is either caused by low line pressure or a slipping band or clutch, or both. Line pressure is controlled by your throttle linkage. There should be a place in the linkage to insert 1/4 in drill bit and then adjust the rod down to the transmission. If the band adjustment is right and the throttle linkage is right, the problem lies within the transmission.

Single range fordomatic should never go first gear, unless you select low in shifter or floor the gas pedal.

Yes the case is 9-7/8—-13/16” free if you want it. No bell housing or tail shaft housing.

    UPDATE
So I found and bought the correct Ford Adjusting tool.
It's not simply add a 1/4" spacer ahead of the bolt.
The tool acts like a 10# torque ratchet and at the correct setting it slips meaning the correct amount of pressure will be applied by the bolt.

regardless of that. I would say even though FATSCO TRANS might have the part. Make sure if the part has supposed seals inside, Check that it actually does. The solenoid I got had no seals in it.
I transferred my working seals from my broken solenoid and set the screw as it recommended and off I went.
Currently shifting smooth and no flares at all.
thanks for all the advice on here.
