Howdy. I’m looking to do something to my aluminum wheels to give them the “magnesium” look. I ran across a guy who used graphite dry lube spray on his aluminum wheels, it looked decent but was wondering what other options you guys are using. My ears are open to all options. Thanks. Jim

I have not done it, so maybe ask in that thread. One member with a cool truck mentioned having a year on it so far, If I Remember Correctly (IIRC).
I do have AR 5 spokes, but prefer the polished rim look on mine.

If the moniker fits you, I'd guess you could mix up something to spray on too. The hard part would be the sheen as much as choosing a color.

  7. I have painted spokes many times. If you could come up with a color for a paint store to match, that might be an option. However, if you are after the polished and Dow 7 look, I don't think that would work. An as cast green look could be duplicated with paint.

My concern is mounting the tires back on the painted rim without chipping the edge to ****. I’ve been painting since ‘77 so I know what to do and I have a PPG mixing bank so color isn’t a problem nor the sheen, just the chipping.

I’m not just after the spokes but the whole wheel, the edges are my concern remounting the tires.

  10. If you have access to a really good tire machine or an operator who is cautious, I would think if you have good adhesion, that you would be be successful but with time, I would expect problems. I wonder if there is a color in anodizing that would be acceptable?
