    Hello,

I was fortunate that my “secret spot” was available after I got finished talking to my friend, Mr. Childers at Lion’s Dragstrip. Who is Mr. Childers? He was the person no one wants to know or see on a regular basis. Not that he was harsh, or rude. But, he was hired as the Dilday Morturary Services that provided the white Pontiac Ambulance everyone saw at every Lion’s Dragstrip race day.

From the topic @Jive-Bomber posted a couple of months ago, here is a Getty Image that was part of the post. Normally, I do not post any watermarked photos or images, so, I tend to post my own or ones I find taken many years ago, without watermarks.

This is a great capture of the white ambulance owned by Dilday Mortuary Services from downtown Long Beach. We knew all about the services as the Dilday Brothers went to our school the same time as my brother and me, in different years.

We got to know Mr. Childers as he was always standing by the white ambulance, on call. Some days there is nothing to do. Other days, there is action that called for his services. But, I knew he stood right at one of the best photo locations at the drag strip. 90 % of the photos shown in public were taken from the spectators’ stands or right in front, in the grassy area.
upload_2025-10-17_3-32-56.png So, the photos taken in front of the orange tower and where Mr. Childers stood was usually empty and not a place for anyone to stand around, let alone take photos or movies. Ha!

So, one day, I wandered over to Mr. Childers’ spot for a nice conversation. But, also, to take some films of the top drag racers of the day. YRMV

But, the most exciting was the one I happen to take of the Scuderia FED coming right at the location where I was standing… next to Mr. Childers and his white Pontiac Ambulance.

Just a couple old drawings. I spent a lot of time in 2022 playing around with different “styles” as I was just getting back into drawing after 40 years. IMG_2461.jpeg IMG_2506.jpeg IMG_2517.jpeg
