I have an extra gl*** roof section with the gl*** and most of the trim if someone needs it. Great build keep the updates coming.
thanks you helped me out with that trim piece! the car has all new jamco springs I believe the rear are 4" drop and the front are the same. it also has 4" lowering blocks out back.
"if anybody has a parts car I am looking for 52 hardtop wing windows I have been told they are stainless and not potmetal" I have a 53 Victoria parts car. Not sure if the wings are the same.
thanks I am super pumped. I have been waiting for this for a long time I actually found stainless wing windows thanks though. And from my research they are 52 only.
Brings back the late 50's early 60's. Back in my day, We would put a 58, 59, or 60 Thunderbird front bumper on it and 56 Packard taillights extended rear fenders with a frenched Continental kit. Also added Mercury Turnpike Cruiser skirts. Headlights would be frenched or quad lights either from a Lincoln or 59 60 Chevy mounted vertical.
Looks great! I would suggest covering the gl*** top with weld paper or something to protect it from the welding sparks/marbles...don't ask me why I know it's important.
Nice profile. Very curious to see how you handle certain aspects, like the A pillar alignment and the rear window opening. Please post whatever progress or in-progress pics you can get, or if you're taking them, I'd love to see more detail stuff, it looks very good. At some point, I want to re-do the chop on my own '53 Ford and using a gl***top roof I've had stored for many years, so I'm very interested in seeing how you handle some of the details here.
the top is just sitting in its place for pics. he definitely won't be welding with it sitting in place. I will blast a bunch of pics as I get them. I wasn't sure if anyone would be into all the little stuff.
Such a rare and special car...and you're taking it to the next level!! Can't wait to see it done, hopefully it will light a fire under me for my 53 Monarch and get going on it!
thank you. I actually expect some people to be upset that this is happening to the car but i am super excited. thanks, and get out and do something to your car lol.
The gl***-top Fords and Mercs were unfortunately ahead of their time. Hopefully you have the interior 'sun shield' to help keep the heat out. These were short-lived as they can be really miserable in a sunny climate, especially if the shield is gone. While initial '54 sales were strong, they fell precipitately after the word got out. Mercury dropped it after only two years (from nearly 10K to less than 2K by '55), and the Ford fared no better, slightly higher numbers in '54/55 with a mere 603 in '56. You might give a thought to applying a reflective mylar coating over the insert. Modern cars have this built into the gl***, but you can buy this as fairly easily applied plastic film for not a lot of money. If you're replacing the insert, if you can get a clear one applying it to the inside will make it more durable. Try these guys.... Ford Crown Victoria Roof Tops - Archer Plastics Inc. | Custom Plastic Fabrication Moulding Port Coquitlam They offer different tints, maybe you can get one with the coating built-in. Or install an oversized AC unit... LOL Very cool concept, but the tech just wasn't there yet. The chop looks great!
