My son-in-law has several very old dueling and McCoy tether cars he has had for many years. I have little knowledge on these. Is the HAMB classifieds a good place to sell these. Thank you
They are just so cool. Good luck moving them on, don't think you will have any issues selling them on the HAMB. Can you post up some pics?
THX all--he has quite a few and used to be on here--I'll have him post them I'm not real familiar with them
So - can I run my new acquisition on the nitro fuels that are stocked in the hobby stores? The period instructions say a menthanol and Castrol mix. Any good web resources? Thanx
It appears that the Dooling brothers were seriously involved in early experimentation with nitromethane fuels for their small hobby engines in the 1940s. Some of their results are covered at about the 26 minute mark in this video. Also believe the fuel mixes for these engines used castor oil, not Castrol.
I sold this one about four years ago on eBay. There was a lot of interest at the time. I just did a search for Tether Cars on eBay and there are quite a few.
A distant retaliative ran these cars in his youth and as I under stand it held some records or won may events . His name was Jack Robertson from the Santa Rosa area and he had a huge car collection many antiques some bought out of the Harras collection. He had is tether cars on display in his house and they were there at his funeral . Wish I had known him better . He gave me a model of a Maxwell car once like one he owned .
I built this one from lost wax castings my late friend, Tony Manocchi made from his own molds. It's never run, it's just a place holder on my bookshelf.
Tony poured rubber in molds he carved himself for the tires. He even did 2 sizes! The tires are works of art. He hand stitched the upolstery as well. Tony was the definiation of a genius. I miss my old friend.
