Technical 55-64 rear brake backing plate mounting flange.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by The Chevy Pope, Oct 8, 2025.

  1. So it looks like I'll be using my 58 Impala rear brake setup on a rear end that essentially doesn't have the mounting flanges on it. Anyone know of a place that sells them or am I stuck carving them out of raw steel myself?

Contacted any of the aftermarket(Currie, Moser, etc) rear axle manufactures?

  3. I haven't called any. Just searched online without luck

Sounds like a one in a million request. I bet you are the only guy who wants to put 58 Chevy brakes on a different rearend. Even if somebody made such a flange, they’d probably have to leave the center too small so the user could bore it to fit their precise axle tube diameter.

So your saying you have a housing that has axle bearing ends with no means to bolt a backing plate onto it?

    Picture?

Have a '63 rear end I would cut the ends off and ship to you, if you cover the shipping.

The question that still needs addressing is why are there no flanges on the axle tubes.

Looks like someone has a set of housing ends for you in an above post - just be mindful of the axle offset, bearing diameter (OD and ID as well as thickness), bolt pattern and center register on whatever axles you are using....
