That's beautiful! Do you think that is chrome trim around the fenders? Maybe a pinstripe? Either way, in a picture of dullness that 32 glows. And it has Imperial Retreads! Nice add.

From other photos I've seen it appears to be a pinstripe.

That's like the little black dress good looking women have hanging in their closets that they take to Vegas for Saturday nights. Simple, elegant, understated and drop dead sexy. Damn I miss Vegas.

  7. It's pinstriping. I knew Phil (RIP), but the car had been redone and sold to Jeff Beck and went to England by the time I met Phil. The car was redone in pearl yellow and called the Super Prune because of a large purple prune painted on the rear panel. The prune was made up of purple naked women. It was voted one of the best 75 32 fords when it was orange. It's still around, but was being redone back to the orange version. Jeff Beck had the car duplicated in the orange version, and it was finished a short time before he passed away. Phil had a chrome sponsorship with Continental Plating in Oakland CA, so everything was chromed.

  12. Phil, the original builder, is the one that redid the car in pearl yellow with the prune on the back. Jeff Beck bought it when it was yellow. At the time Phill was real big into the indoor car shows, and the car had to have significant changes to be competitive each year. A lot of really nice cars were changed because of that rule, and a lot of time it wasn't for the better. I did like the yellow version.

Your knowledge is beyond my question. It seemed to me the beauty of the car as originally posted was impossible to improve upon. It appears I am once again mistaken. Thank you for your posts, dear sir.

A car alludes us. The quest continues.

In my eyes, the Jeff Beck version (Super Prune) was definitely NOT an improvement over the original Phil Kendrick version.

Another reason for fenders on hot rods, no one ever leaves their drink on your fender. That would be rude.

  21. Hi Mick. Jeff Beck didn't paint the car yellow, He bought it from Phil after Phil had the car repainted in yellow. I don't remember what year the car was redone in yellow, and I don't remember if I ever saw the orange version. My Dad first showed his own car at Oakland in 69. We met phil after the car had been sold to Jeff Beck, maybe early 70's. I only remember the yellow Super Prune version of Phil's car, and as a young kid I really liked it, and I still do. Of course I like the orange version too.

While I respect your view and your uploads, Mr. @Moriarity is of a different mindset. He thinks there is one, he has called it out...several times! I would love to prove him wrong. We have not succeeded.

    Yet.

I prefer the orange version by far based only on the photos provided. The yellow version, with the flame job, doesn't do it for me.

This thread reminds me of “Do you like blondes, brunettes or red heads?”
    The correct answer is YES!

Your right, I guess I should have left Jeff's name out and just mentioned I really liked the orange version best.

  27. Lately I have seen a lot of hate thrown at the Milner coupe, on its awkwardness.

I think many people are missing the point of this car, its awkwardness is its appeal!

It is supposed to represent what a young small town guy who was still learning would build, don't forget the character of John Milner was only 20 years old!
