olds.jpg I acquired a 1950 Olds 3 Speed Transmission from a buddy. Someone was doing an LS swap into a 1950 Olds. My buddy ended up with the 303 Olds Rocket, trans and rear end .A couple of years ago he gave me the trans since he wasn't going to use it. Since then I've been looking for the elusive Hurst Mystery shifter or shifter bracket to no avail. Did anyone else make a shifter for the olds or Lasalle? Also I thought I saw a thread or in a thread on the HAMB where someone was making a shifter bracket? Does anyone remember seeing that. Eventually the Olds is going behind a 331 Hemi.

it’s on page two. I think you’ll find some helpful info there.

You ever see what guys did before shift kits were sold?
They shortened a column shift****embly’s so they were only inches long and mounted them on the top of the transmissions. Then lengthen the shift lever and the shifting arms.

The other thread is for the 51-64 Olds selector transmissions. Your 1950 Olds is one year only based on Cadillac side shifted (and older LaSalle side shift transmissions). Several companies made shifters for your style, including Hurst, Eelco and probably others.

The Eelco was a wild design because it had a shift handle raised "tower" to look like a top shifted transmission like the 37 LaSalle had. I sold mine to a traditional parts collector guy in Rhode Island, but I know I put up pics of it years ago on here somewhere, I will try to find that.

I also had the Hurst for those transmissions and it uses a very simple and typical looking mounting bracket that uses a normal looking Hurst 3 speed shifter body.

  6. The dual pattern hurst is better shifter.

    the bracket should be simple.
I’ve got a mid 50s gm trans that had a mystery shifter on it. Previous owner made a simple homemade bracket. Cut down some shift arms. Worked ok.
I replaced it with a NOS duel pattern I picked up recently

  10. Here’s a pic of the bracket

guy put a ton of miles on it.
A guy down here just sold a couple dozen NOS eelco/other non hurst shifters. All late 30s to mid 60s universal applications.
Might could find out a lead on who got em.

This is what you want, sorry not for sale. This bracket is for the ford conversion for the lasalle. But basically the same as the 50 olds

I used to have one of the Eelco shifters you mentioned; a very strange animal.

I've got a Hurst shifter mounting bracket that's not for sale, but could give you some pictures and dimensions. As for the shifter, just about any Hurst three speed shifter will do. The arms that bolt to the transmission are the same design as what Hurst used for the 1949-65 Chevrolet three speeds, so they're not too hard to find.

Guys also used to stick a slab of raw meat on the end of a tree branch and hold it over an open fire for a couple hours. Thankfully, things have gotten better since then.

We all get your point but maybe use a metaphor that doesn’t sound so damned appealing.

...and they transferred upside down. Great. Anyway, if you want to try to make one, I could make you a pattern out of paper.
