    I dated a girl that had a 67 Camaro for a short time, that built up flathead V8 probably had a lot more power then the Chevy 6 cylinder in her Camaro had.

    If the guy bought the car from an insurance salvage, the odds are pretty good that the 396 was long gone (and probably the reason it was insurance salvaged). The SS Camaro probably had pretty good rear gears in it, could have been a 4 speed car, and probably was a great starting point for a drag car.
