Just got a car I have wanted since I was a kid. I have always wanted a 49 or 50 Olds, and finally found one in good shape that I could afford. I is nosed and decked, door handles removed, hood corners rounded and hood louvered. Frenched antenna in the drivers front fender. It has a 58 Olds J2 engine with tripower and a mild cam. Jetaway auto transmission. It was built about 30 years ago, and I bought it from it's 85 year old owner. It has an air ride system installed, which I am not crazy about, but I will drive it a bit before I make a decision about it. It needs lots of little things on it fixed, but the body and interior is nice and the engine just needs some oil leaks fixed.

Great find BJR. When I was in High School in 59 a guy that ran with us had 50 olds coupe. It was the envy of all of us and was the fastest car for miles around. Now, what to do with the Buick.

Great looking car! Only change I would make would be to uncork those headers and cruise it.

  14. I like that the builder got creative with the electrical. 1 wire GM alternator and a stock "looking" voltage regulator. Nice touch.

What a sweet score! A great car originally with the 303, but with the J2 - wow!

It's the general consensuses that North & South Dakota used winter salt in the flat land areas sparingly, at least in the early years..... hopefully you are the recipient of that D.O.T. decision in your awesome Old's.

Man oh man....what a sharp looking car. The Jetaway is a great transmission and the Olds in indestructible. That car must drive like a dream.

Congrats on the acquisition, it's a stunner

  22. Nice looking package all around. Don't sweat the air-ride, just drive away!

The guy I bought it from said he got it from down south somewhere. I have it on a lift and there is no sign of rust anywhere, or repairs that I can see anywhere.

  28. I agree the air ride would have to go. But that ride height would have to stay lol. Watched hot rod girl again yesterday and was just thinking the stance of the bad guy olds was perfect lol HotRodGirl_Still_04.jpg

Did alternators on quite a few GM cars & trucks with the factory regulator left in place. Gutted regulator & mounted 2 circuit breakers inside it - 1 for charging system, 1 for the rest of the car.

Very clean car, I like it. I know you said you didn't like the air ride but if it drives fine, I'd resist the temptation to do anything more than sort out any obvious faults and just drive it, from my experience once you start going into that sort of thing (changing a major component), before you know it you have a snowball on your hands (ask me how I know lol)...
