Very nice car, great score, always lusted after the 49-50 Olds cars. My favorite being the club coupe.

That's a great find and an all-time favorite, One of my best friend growing up got a '50 Olds fastback from his older brother. His brother had put in a 324 and a LaSalle 3-speed. It was everyone of our groups favorite. My family always bought Oldsmobiles because we were related to R.E.Olds. Wonderful cl***ic automobiles. Best wishes and consider yourself fortunate to have found such a beauty.

There is a big difference between a properly engineered and installed air suspension system and an air-over-leaf setup or cobbled together mess of other components. I have had zero issues with my air suspension set up, and it has afforded me drivability that the car wouldn't otherwise have and keep the stance I want. If having adjustability in the ride height allows more drivability, then my vote is to keep that.

Congrats,I can’t remember a time when a 49-50 Olds wasn’t desirable to any car guy.
I’m betting there’s many here still longing for one……….if we could only turn back the clock.:(

Since you have had it up on the lift, you probably know if and where it touches stuff, make sure those are in good shape, the air lines are well done and just enjoy. Unless it is a hack job or rides poorly, it should be as good or better than springs.

I'd pull the fuzzy dice, but it's your car. Oh, and make sure those fuel hoses are modern alky proof stuff.

The fuel hoses will be replaced with steel tubing in the future. I will be checking the bags also .

From what I know the steering wheel is an optional one, if you got this option you also got a comp*** in place of the clock in the center of the dash. I don't have the comp*** so my steering wheel is not original from the factory, but added later. If anyone has the comp*** and wants to sell it PM me. Also if anyone knows how to remove the clock from the wheel please let me know, as I don't want to break it.

Great score! Like a lot of others said, I’ve been lusting after one for years. We had two wicked hot rod 49-50 Olds coupes in our part of town and I saw Gene Adams’ car at Lions as a youngster too. Never got over them.

Very nice. Considering it's a 30yr old build it certainly doesn't look as though it's been used much

    Hello,

Nice 50 Oldsmobile. It has what would have been and probably still are the necessary items to showcase the true 1950’s style. Nice paint, Olds flipper hubcaps, whitewalls, and a fairly low stance. The added exhaust cut outs or long, under door lakes pipes connected to the downtube from the stock headers.
upload_2025-10-29_4-59-1.png My brother’s first car was a 1951 Oldsmobile Sedan. It was stock Pale Yellow until we went to town adding things as per custom car look for the times and available pocket book funds. The first thing done was cut coil lowering that led to a very cool lowered car with a rake. Then as the rear also got lowered, it was a low slung cruiser that drove well on level streets. Then the Moon discs were added.

When the long chrome lakes pipes were connected to the downtube exhaust openings, that was a cool look and sound when the caps were taken off. But, the open caps automatically told the local police or CHP that it was loud. Plus, the lowered stance started to s****e the lowest parts and so, the pipes were taken off and sold to a friend with a stock level car that now looked lowered with the under door pipes.

But, upon coming to any deep groove cross streets with dips, the speed instantly had to be quickly lowered to allow slow to crawling speeds to cross the intersection. Luckily, we got to know all of the deep ruts in our area and were prepared.

    upload_2025-10-29_4-59-56.png
Technically, the lowered stance was illegal with 4 teenagers inside, but when measured without the teenagers, the stance was in the legal level above the lowest part of the rims or car.

By the time late 1957 came around, it got painted a Lime Green and was sold to a neighbor for his first car. My brother also sold the Model A Coupe we had just started to modify for our hot rod/drag race coupe. Both were gone and in its place, a new 280 hp 1958 Impala now sat on our driveway. .

If it were today, the air ride suspension would stay as it can be useful when steep driveways or dips in the roadways prevent normal driving without having to slam on the brakes to slow down. Even driveways that most stock level cars go up to the houses, prevented that simple action when lowered, especially with lakes pipes or other accessories.

A simple touch of the switch to raise the car would have been perfect for all driveways in our Westside of Long Beach neighborhood and the steep driveway of the local teenage hangout drive-in restaurant parking lot entrance/exits.
upload_2025-10-29_5-6-2.png The normal driveway entrance for a late 40s tract house is steep. And, almost every cross street had deep ruts from our house to PCH or out to the north side of the driving direction.

The 1951 Oldsmobile sedan had to approach it at an angle to clear all protrusions below the car and or the lowered rake car itself. The 58 impala also had to approach it at a slow speed to clear the concrete sidewalk, driveway entrance, too. And, this stance for the 58 Impala with the Skylark Wire Wheels, also had to be a creeper at the dips and daily driveway angle.
    upload_2025-10-29_5-17-2.png thanks, @themoose
At the time, no such thing as an automatic raise and lower contraption was available. The local low rider cars did not have hydraulics until later. But, when they did get the hydraulic systems, it was fun to see them cruise around lowered and as they came to the cross street ruts, raise the car to cross and then drop to continue their rides.

I would keep the air ride system on your Oldsmobile, as it will prove to be handy in all situations. YRMV

cool. my first car would have been a 1950 Olds that was in the neighborhood but he sold it when I was 15 (1975) :(. shaved, louvered hood, faded candy red paint, red and white tuck and roll interior, rusty chrome wheels with pinner whites. we would ride our bikes over there and look at it on a regular basis. he had a faded yellow 32 roadster in the garage with an Olds motor.
