My current build: a 62 and 63 Corvette mashup. Just got some color on it, no clear yet.

Some seriously talented model builders here. Props to all of you. I have not built any in several years, but I do have a few...hundred. There's just over 100 unopened/unbuilt ones in my shop. You can see about half of them in this pic. 20231216_153549.jpg

  7. The club I’m in had a contest, and you had to rebuild a a model you bought. I’ll see if I can find the picture of what I started with.

I had about 50 model cars I'd built as a young guy before high school age, and they later got stored in a spare room upstairs in our first house. The bedroom next to it was where our son and daughter shared a room, and one day my wife mentioned they'd been awfully quiet for far too long. I went upstairs to see what they were up to, and they weren't in their room. I opened the door to the adjacent room and saw all the model cars out of their boxes and not a single one was left unharmed! It looked like they'd played demolition derby with all of them, and I just turned and went back downstairs. Wife asked what was wrong, and I told her I was too upset to even talk to them about what they'd done. She went upstairs to see and soon came down horrified at the sight of what she'd seen. My kids are 55 and 53 now, and still recall the great model car destruction day vividly. Especially my son whose into cars too, and says he's still not sure what made them decide it was a fun idea?
Needless to say I wont be building any model cars again.

A friend sent me a great clone model of Ohio George's '33 Willys when it had the Ford engine. The most detailed model car I've ever seen, but USPS managed to overcome his great packing job and break one rear slick off it! I bought that same Testors glue to glue the wheel on and after gluing and clamping it overnight I removed the clamp the next day and the wheel just fell off. Might as well have used honey instead of that worthless*****.
I went and bought a bottle of Mr Cement liquid glue for modeling, and applied it to the parts, and clamped it again. Waited an hour, which might even be too long, but it was solid and fixed! Butanone-acetone-acetyl acetate. Whatever that combination makes?

I was looking at a few on the big auction site that I remember I built as a kid... wow. Prices have really gone up!

People even part the kits out, so you can buy just a bumper or wheels. Wish I'd saved mine.

Acetone and one of these applicators works better than the new eco glue.

Best bet, hit up Hobby Lobby. Every other week kits are 40% off.

Didn’t put a like because I feel the pain. All my builds suffered the same fate.

Love the 64 Imperial convertible model in the background. We had one of those (actual car not the model) when I was a kid. Tons of fun loading it up with buddies going cruising or hitting the drive in. Good memory, thanks.

One i was doing the orange on yesterday. It needs a little polishing to get some bleed through cleaned up.

The orange cleaned up nicely with some 600 to 1000 grit sanding pads. I did the silver window trim with an AK figure painting pen.

    I masked everything else off with Tamiya 6 mm tape. 20251103_110702.jpg 20251103_110644.jpg 20251103_110702.jpg 20251103_110644.jpg 20251103_110636.jpg

I started a 40 Convertible, chopped the windshield and am working on a Carson top with a good swoopy profile, unlike the stock 40 convertible Conestoga wagon look.

Probably one of my first models was of a 57 Chevy. They were such an iconic car growing up as a kid in the 70s.
