    Yes, updates will be coming!
I pretty much*****oned up the engine after work this week. Today I‘m gonna give it a coat of fresh paint and finish****embling. The engine had been run without the bypass oil filter, and with everything being brand new now, I‘d certainly like to add at least the bypass system. We will see if I can come up with a stock unit or maybe something I can adapt. A bit of filtration would be better than none I guess IMG_0357.jpeg IMG_0358.jpeg B4EF8ABA-70BF-48F3-801B-51439E1E19B6.jpeg IMG_0365.jpeg 1EF5B4F1-4D50-4994-95C7-47AB64B07D9F.jpeg

I wonder if an oil spinner wouldn’t do a better job of filtering the oil instead of the old bypass system?

For the last 80k miles or so I‘ve been running 15w40 oil in it, with changes every 4-5000 miles, that´s at about the time I notice that the oil becomes darker on the dipstick.
I ´ve found an old flathead oil filter canister in my pile of parts, Jay gave it to me when I got his 40 Ford. It was a little gummed up and rusty, but it´s perfect for what I intend to do. I drilled off the flathead mount and made a little bracket that bolts to the manifold. I good cleaning and a little paint make me the fabricator I ain´t. Must be true if it rhymes, hahahaha

IMG_0485.jpeg IMG_0486.jpeg Guys, I need to pick your brains here. As you know I got the 52 with the engine out of the car and disassembled. Now I´m trying to figure out how the motor mounts got back together. The front mounts look like they need to be stacked. Is that so? I tried to find photod on the internet , but couldn´t find any.... thanks in advance!

Thank you for sharing pictures of your car and engine build . I’m enjoying the pictures of your shop . The brick floor is great

  11. If I remember correctly that top piece sits on top of the block side motor mount bracket and goes through it

If I recall my ‘59 pu (as mentioned) had a metal mount on the block. The two piece of round rubber. Like metal washer on one side of each, then a double thread rod that separated the two by 3-4 inches. The rod must have had “nubs” for a lack of a better term. The nubs is what separated the rubber. I think it went through the crossmember and bolted from the bottom, the top the same way to the mount on the block, but bolted with the rubber on the bottom side.
Now a car could be different, Not sure.

Saturday night I put the engine back in the car, all fit well, it went down like fat kid on a water slide. I finally figured out the motor mounts as you can tell. :D

  15. I see I'm not the only one that leaves the hood on while engine swapping a 49-54 Chevy lol

We broke in the new camshaft at 2000 rpm last weekend... had to wait for a new battery to come in, it seems like no one has 6V batteries in stock anymore. It runs good, does not overheat, oilpressure is great and under load it raps like Ice Cube. And it shot quite some rust out the tailpipes.... it sat under a tarp for almost 3 years.

The transmission was immediately stuck in 2nd gear, but I that couldn´t wipe the smile off my face, and after a while I noticed the Generator was not charging, ok no biggie, but there was a terrible noise at idle... oh carp, did it eat a lifter? Nope , it didn´t, the generator is shot and it is grinding itself to death, with the belt off the engine ran nice and smooth as glass. I suspect the last owner may have pulled the engine just because of the noises the bad generator made, as all the old crank and rod bearings that I got with the car, just like the old pistons, were looking brandnew. So, a gen rebuild and a shift linkage adjustment may be in my future.. But overall that´s still a success, car drives great, the new engine is happy and runs nicely and the winter is long enough to work the bugs out.
Oh I forgot, the fuel pump leaks oil and I remember the last owner told me he had rebuilt it recently...we will see which surprise is waiting there:D

Those old chevys were bad about sticking in 2 gear. Needs new bearings in shifting rods.

    That's great.

When I got out of college I bought an OT saab 9000T 5 speed that needed a new engine. Turned out it was the alternator siezed up.

Great progress. If a generator and fuel pump is all it needs, you're doing great.

My girlfriend's '51 needed a fuel pump and we bought a new in the box Carter and it was completely worthless. If you have the original rebuildable pump and can get a kit, it'll be worth doing, the new replacements are junk.

Adjust per manual starting inside, lot of times the threads are stripped on the column mount and won’t hold the adjustment, if it’s good it will adjust to shift like new. IMG_3139.jpeg

Glad it’s running good for you. The other stuff is minor and can be fixed anytime.

Xaver and I pulled the generator apart this afternoon. He said, it´s toast and turned his thumb down... I believe him, he looks like he knows his stuff. :D

Thanks Chev, that´s what I did last night. My column mount is fine . I haven´t touched the shift rods yet because I was running out of time. I did use the manual, but am not done yet. I´ll report back!

It still has the original glas bowl fuel pump and of course I´m gonna keep it that way. I noticed a few fresh oil drips under it, I don´t think it´s unfixable.

Great job getting engine****embled and installed, test driving and working on troubleshooting the shifter and generator.

I've got a 52 Chevy Ute with a full pressure 235 (for now). I converted to an S-10 T5 and 56 Chevy car rearend. Much better driving. The rear was installed with lowering block, using the pin offset built into the block. I fabricated the blocks out of steel. Basically a bolt-in swap except need to make the driveshaft given open drive vs torque tube. While performance is not great, the 235 is sufficient. I lowered front just cutting coil spring. I also fabricated a mount to run a GM 10SI alternator along with 12 volt conversion. For improved brakes i added disc front, still using the stock single master cylinder; but with the residual pressure valve removed. No RPV added, and no issues with air leaking back or fluid filling the master cylinder up.

That generator is shredded! That's been squealing for a long time.
