Just bought a project 35 Chevy. Please let me know a parts vendor who sells the long molding that helps keep the gl*** aligned. I'll post a photo of it below. It needs to be 1 continuous piece that is 6' long. Thanks ! Brian
I believe this pretty much a universal part. You will need thickness of gl*** and also the window channel. Gl*** outfit that cuts automotive gl*** or parts store should be able to steer you in the right direction.
when I need that stuff I drive to St Paul and visit the National Chevy ***n... https://www.nationalchevy***oc.com/?srsltid=AfmBOopqqZAfMHAo4uVi_dzF0yMjccIoDb7yyx3HzSiwx4-6LbCyhutc
I've noticed over the past few decades, that now I need to get into my time machine, before I try to visit my local auto gl*** shop for anything that might fit old cars. sad
Rubber the right way should have it as well. Weatherstripping Parts, Cl***ic Car Rubber Parts, & More
Have you checked with the usual sources for that sort of thing - Steele Rubber, Metro Moulded Parts, Chevs of the 40s?
Strange, I know of 2 gl*** shops that carry the channel, I know it's getting harder to find them with the lack of phone books now a days. HRP
You have to go over to the old been in the same family for several generations full service gl*** shop in the same old building that it has been in for decades. A good friend of mine runs a shop that does autogl*** but they just replace gl*** and don't cut flat gl*** or have anything for older rigs but he can put a new windshield in your wife's 4 year old daily driver in short order and do a perfect job of it.
My brother ordered some for his 35' Olds from Rock Auto fairly reasonable. I believe it was Steele Rubber brand
Looks like a Y619 or Y620. The rigid one should work. Most sites have measurements, this is how I matched mine up
I went with Restoration Specialties for mine. At the time few sold the channel in 8' long pieces. If you find a part number that looks good, do a search using that. I needed 2 of the bendable and 1 of the rigid, IIRC. Of the bendable, I had something like 8" leftover at the end.
A little tip, when you bend it to make a curve make sure that the stainless bead edge slides on the fuzzy part, if it doesn't it will kink. You will have to trim off the ends that will be sticking out after you get the shape you want.
The bendable type makes a decent curve without kinking. On the rigid stuff. I needed to make 90 degree angles for the doors. There was nothing to go by, I just intersected them and it looks good. I made the cuts on my mill with s**** molding in the channel to hold it open.
