Simple question, what bellhaousing do i need to put a 8 BA into my Shoebox with a three on the Tree ? Or Do i need an adapter ? Thanks for you help guys
yup - pretty common part - just make sure you get the starter plate too as its angled to match the bell - have both pieces sitting on the shelf from my sbc conversion.....hit me up if you need em
You gotta have all the right stuff. If you are gathering parts, you have to pay attention and make sure you use 1949* 1950-51 car stuff. You must have the car water pumps that are also the motor mounts. * 1949 cars used wide belts. This means all the pulleys, waterpump, crank, fan and generator all have wide pulleys. 1950-51 through 1953 use the narrow belt and narrow pulleys. This is all engine stuff so a 49 engine can go in a 50-51 with no issue. A 50-51 engine can go in a 49 with no issue. Just make sure all the pulleys match. Oil pan…… Make sure you use the right oil pan and pickup. Shoebox cars require an oil pan made to clear the steering. As mentioned, Shoebox cars require the correct starter plate. 8RT, truck stuff is not compatible. Most of the Mercury stuff is not compatible.
I just pulled the original drivetrain out of my 50 coupe. 239 flat motor, 3 speed w/overdrive box. All is for sale. Engine needs rebuild(good core). I have been driving the car until August of this year.
