Hey guys I’m installing a Edelbrock carb onto my 63 impala with a stock 327 manifold. It doesn’t look right. What do I need to get to make it fit properly? Thanks
Edelbrock performer intake. Or the RPM Performer. I don’t think I’d want to run an adapter, even if ones made. Edit: If not corroded up, a used intake will work as good as a new one. Just won’t be a clean.
Taper adapters are made and reasonable. Off shore manifolds new are also. Used (take your pick) are on many sites. My choice would be a stock Rochester 4 GC.
....or it would work without an adapter on a factory 327/300 HP intake manifold. If you do that, be sure to run the stainless steel heat plate under the carb, or the raw exhaust that comes out of the two heat riser holes will warp it.
There are 1/2" thick adapter plates made to do this, it was very commonly done in the 60's and 70's. I have several if you need one.
@Eth727 hunt down an old dual plane "Holley Street Dominator" intake. [70's-80's vintage] It is exactly the same casting as the 1970 LT1 chevy intake cast in the same Winters Foundry Grind the "Holley Street Dominator" logo off it and either needle scale it for the cast finish or paint it chevy orange We paid NZD $100 for one at a swap meet [USD $60] A carb adaptor makes a WCFB / 4-Jet intake into a restrictor plate Here is a throat location / size comparison.
If you use an older manifold make sure to use a 2732 flat plate adapter, even old Edelbrock intakes have problems with Edelbrock carbs.
If you have this spacer, & needing in tight Fix low On Funds Need to drive This adapter would work, Also needing sheet of aluminum Road sign or 1/8 plate Need cardboard for template and drill holes. Bolts & stud's My self in pass I have taken & added threaded to 5/16 bolt holes To 3/8 's & 7/16 & used step stud's . Not perfect solution and IF Not looking for max power being under 300 hp it would work, One correct gasket for intake , Then One heat shield Then another Gasket later Q Jet or holley gasket , Then Spacer Then Edelbrock gasket Then Carb ,,, Yes a Frankenstein !!! They are a different animal . The Q-jet is a spreadbore. If you had a Q-jet intake you're better off with a Q-jet carb Try this https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Holl..._qU47eK0TD8xN0S-5xPtgpwWHNu74fTTrorzWOnRu8vAa But the whole setup is a hack job at the best. Either swap for an intake that fits or rebuild the 4GC If you like the look of stock cast iron intakes [who doesn't ] look for a 300hp/327 cast-iron AFB intake. The Edelbrock carb is basically an AFB
first 2 pic typical Q-Jet two small*****erflies and two large*****er*****erflies secound 2 is a 4 -Jet
Correct GM intake for a Carter AFB or Edelbrock is 3844459. I bought one last year for $10 in good condition on CL. Or, use your current intake with a Rochester 4GC, as shown above. Here is a couple of pics:
This is the adapter that you need https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Holl...abqgK48Msa5fwyud9jiXWl3tiF2S2jS5o8nnT_pT8HmnH
