Hot Rods 33-34 roadsters. Traditional style

He was a fine man and true hot rodder.
I went to Pleasanton with him one year in his roadster, put some miles behind the wheel myself, his car was quite a hit there, he bought one of the last French flatheads there.

 

Dave Schnell built, Portland Oregon, now owned by his son Tim.

"This is the most enjoyable thing I've ever done with Dad's roadster," says Tim Schnell at the HOT ROD Homecoming. He was all smiles all weekend, and who wouldn't be if they were in his position? Tim not only acquired his father's performance engine business in Portland, Oregon, after his pop's retirement, but also his 1934 roadster. It was originally a customer car before Tim's dad purchased it in 1965. "Dad had a bunch of 1932s and 1936s, but this is the one hot rod he held onto," says Tim.

here's a deteriorated picture from the Vultures Asphalt Invitational at the now bulldozed Holiday Bowl in Hayward Ca. sometime around 1994. anyone know where it is now?

*don't keep photos on CD. this photo was shrinking, and would have been gone in another year. I have the blank car show CD's to prove it.

 

I don't have any info on the car, but those were great shows. That bowling alley was so cool. There was a waitress there that worked there for like 40 years. She was an asian gal if I remember right.

 

yes he was, I always valued the time he gave me as a snot nose kid, lol. Always a little sad when I drive past his house. I still remember the big event held there right before or right after his p***ing, that was such a great day.

 

I was there, sad seeing him in that wheelchair, great turnout, quite a sendoff party.

 

Looks like Borrani wire wheels, ala Ferrari.

definitely a Cabriolet.

 

Definity a Cabriolet. Cabriolets had three door hinges to support the heavier doors.

 

How far back for tradition?

 

one of the best.

I realize it's not as "traditional" as many of the great cars already posted are, but it is all Ford steel with a Buick engine and has been on the road since 1989.
