anyone have one for a 54 Chevy 210? I need to see what the "box" on the steering column looks like. There is a spring in there that isn't hooked to anything on mine, and I need to know where to hook it! Hopefully I explained that correctly.
That spring is what makes the 2nd-3rd plane of the shifter the default (on mine at least). It should be pushing the shifter towards the front of the car. Other than that, the rest of the internals is pretty straight forward. Since you've got it apart, adjust/align the forks in the box it so when you're in neutral, the shifter tang can slot into the 1-R fork or the 2-3 fork with no rotation required- just pulling back or letting it go. It makes the biggest difference not having to hunt for 1st and R and shifting into 2nd. Also, repack the whole box with fresh grease.
Got the linkage adjusted Friday after work! Was way easier than I had thought (which is a first for this car), now I can shift through all three gears with no problems!!! Next project is to get it running on all 6 cylinders. Thanks guys for your help...
